You are correct that Harvard has a residency requirement. For their Masters (ALM-IT) - it is one course in-residence.

Master’s Degree in Information Technology : Harvard Extension School

I plan on taking it via summer session (8 week) so it's not so onerous.

And, I agree with ShotoJuku's post below. I graduated with a 2.3 undergrad - and am currently enrolled in Harvard's ALM. Point being that hard work can overcome most of life's obstacles (including low GPAs).

Greg

I guess you are right Greg. It depends on which Harvard X program you are in. They each seem to vary in their residency requirements. I was looking at the MBA or MLA programs. Thanks for the pep talk. It is much appreciated.

It would probably take 4 extra CLEPs to bump me into a 3.5 GPA, but my rational side is telling me that the time and expense probably won't be worth it for the extra little "Cum Laude" sticker on the diploma since I will get into grad school either way. Most employers (including mine) just care about the sheepskin. Degree? Check.

I agree with Katterina. I could have bought a Summa Cum Laude sticker on my diploma by bumping a B off of my transcripts by replacing it with FEMA credits. But, I chose not to for the same reason as Kattering mentioned.

I think that prestigious, ivy-league colleges are great. But, in my opinion, we are mostly here using instantcert because our parents aren't paying our way and we have no free ride. We don't have the time for full-time traditional college. ... and who's to say that Harvard provides a better distance learning opportunity than anywhere else?
