I'll preface this by saying I do not test well for anything. It's a personal quirk; I let myself get far too anxious and tend to over-prepare, whether it's for course midterms/finals or CLEP/DSST (I handle midterms/finals a bit better since I've got specific texts and notes to work with). I much prefer courses since assignments and structured quizzes can make up a good portion of my grade (quizzes are no big deal if I can take them at my environment/desk/music/etc). I've taken CLEP exams before, but they were some time ago, and I did well but that did not change extreme levels of anxiety before and during.
I have another scheduled for next week - Principles of Marketing - and am wondering what is a good guideline for scoring on a practice exam to know I'm ready? Maybe if I know I'm in a good range, I won't have the "fun" of test-day nausea so badly. I'm studying IC, general internet resources, and a textbook I picked up on the cheap, but want to know when I can ease up on the cramming.

I use the practice tests as study material. I keep taking them and reviewing the explanations until I am in the 90th percentile. That helps my test anxiety. Perhaps that will work for you too!

Mrs.B im in the same boat as you, working on geting ready for principles of marketing so i can finally graduate from college. wish i had a class for this but dont have the time. i bet this would be quite easy if stretched through a semester.
I picked up a book from REA ( Research & Education Association) that helped has tests and 50 pages getting to the main points of this class

You do not wish you had a class for this one. Believe me. Just read the REA book, take the practice tests and you will be fine.
I passed with a 72 with REA as my only resource.

Done! I got a 71 using IC for 99% of the information / preparation. (I had a textbook but never could make myself crack it other than to skim the definitions in the back, and looked up markup examples on the web to make sure that was down.) I'm also taking Microeconomics and Prin. of Management as courses right now, so that helped, and googled practice exams and took any free one I came across to measure preparation ahead of time.
A few tips if this CLEP is coming up:
1) Know the marketing mix details forward and backwards.
2) Familiarize yourself with demand elasticity, fixed/variable costs, and the other microeconomic concepts in marketing.
3) Know marketing segmentation details, particularly psychographics, etc.
4) Do not chug a large coffee 10 minutes before sitting down to take the exam.
Trust me, they'll help.
On to DSST Business Ethics & Society, then testing is done for my degree plan and I can put away my test-taking anxiety dilemma!

Thanks! Yes, once I'm done, I always sit back and tell myself, "See?! You got all worked up over nothing! Remember that next time." Then next time, I get all worked up again.
Like I said, personal quirk. I own it, it's mine; I just hate these sorts of tests. Once I'm done with the testing and finish the degree, it's not something I really need to worry about again.
Whew, I do love the afternoon after a finished test, though. It's like the weekend starts early (even though I did have to come back to work - boo!)
