Musk's "free speech absolutism" lasted all of three days. He immediately learned the purpose of content moderation policies.

Why not just do double standards for one side? Wouldn't that be fair?
One side has free speech. The other side can't say anything that is wrongthink.

Definitely where Musk is headed. But it's his private company, have at it. The market is already showing him what they think of it

True. I heard a number of people are moving over to Mastodon, but it sounds like communications are split up amongst numerous networks rather than being easily searchable across a single network.

I've played around with Mastodon since around 2018. It's interesting, but I don't think it will ever catch on to a mass userbase the likes of twitter sees.

But at least he explained his policies! He said that in order to keep the blue checkmark, you had to sign off on not impersonating anyone unless you marked it "satire." They clearly broke the rule. It was not a vague one, it was specific, with the penalty told in advance.

There is a lot of misinformation being spread that this is a new rule when it's clearly not.

Yep, you guessed it, Twitter finally got rid of the free blue check marks, and celebrities are having a meltdown.
Only verified users eligible to be in For You recommendations? That takes away a major feature of Twitter.
Thoughts?

"Celebs" aren't having a meltdown. The check removal is going so well, though, that nobody is subscribing and Musk is forcefully adding checkmarks to people at random. Hilariously pathetic of Musk.
