Would like to get a masters LMHC currently have a BOG
#1
I currently have an associate's degree from Pierpont and I'm 29 (M) out of Austin, TX. I previously ran my own arbitrage business, but I disliked greatly. I've worked with kids, though, and I do enjoy the work. I would like to go into mental health care with an emphasis on children. I'm not sure where to go from here.

Here are my thoughts: I would prefer to do the bachelor's online, maybe a Bachelor's in Psychology from UMPI, then ask for letters of recommendation from all the professors. This might increase my chances of getting into the LMHC Master's program. I feel I should take as many letter-grade classes as possible. I used Sophia for all but one letter-grade class from Clackamas for my associate's degree from Pierpont.                                                                                                                                    I'm open to an online Master's program, as long as it's hybrid and I could actually get a degree, but I'm totally open to a physical location for the Master's if it's feasible.

Any thoughts or guidance is deeply appreciated.

If you want letters of rec, you'll need to take the same professor repeatedly and have interactions with them - emails, Zoom, etc. Why would you ask for a letter from all of the professors?

What master's are you looking to complete? What do you plan to do with it?

Likely I would just would ask the psych professors. I was thinking it would increase the likelihood of me getting into a Masters program. Masters In Mental Health Counseling is the Masters I'd be going for. I would like to help young children, primarily I've heard you can specialize later via getting credential for play therapy etc. after the Masters.

I would begin researching grad programs and the admissions requirements. That's where you'll find if you need letters of rec and how many. Also look into state licensing requirements.

You'll need to have a professor multiple times and have interactions with them for a letter. I asked one of my UMPI professors for one. I had her for 7 or 8 classes, emailed with her weekly, and had a few Zoom calls with her. You're on your own for the most part at UMPI because it's a CBE program so you don't have much interaction with professors unless you initiate it.

Take some time reviewing posts and threads, you may also want to take a look at some programs that interest you and are very similar to what you're looking for, an example is these ones here: https://kairos.edu/academics/programs/

Appreciate the information on the letters of recommendation.  I'll have to look further into what they accept, the problem is they don't say what they'll fully accept until you send in your transcripts for alot of them. I was hoping someone had already had already gone through it/ followed a similar pathway and had some inside info.

All colleges list their admissions requirements on their websites. So you'll see what programs require academic letters of recommendation. There are many programs who do not require them.

Your main goal is to decide on what is best for you, which direction you want to go is up to you. Advice can go in all directions, find a degree pathway suited to your learning style. I suggest to see what degree options are available at the graduate level and take classes at the undergraduate level to meet and exceed requirements for entry, such as the Kairos programs I mentioned earlier. Here's an example I use often, Supermind, TESU BALS Psych concentration (you don't need TESU or UMPI BA Psych, you can get the UMPI BLS with Psych minor as well), ladder that up to Walden MS Psych, join the PHI CHI Society, and look for doctoral programs that fit.
