Everyone can think of a few schools with weird names. Here's my new favorite: Glister Eduversity

Some others that come to mind that most of us are familiar with...
Everyone seems to be in agreement that University of the People is pretty awful, though I never had much of a problem with it. I don't think it's a GOOD name, but people have a strong reaction to it that I never understood.
Smartly Academy realized how dumb that name was then changed it to... Quantic School of Business and Technology. Less embarrassing than Smartly, but still pretty awful.
New Charter University went from that bland but acceptable name to "Bottega University," which is just close enough that it might as well "bodega."
I was never a fan of Excelsior, while we're at it.

I have no idea why they changed from Regents. In NY that was a pretty well known test in high schools.

The state motto of NY is Excelsior. It means every upward. Excelsior College is located in the state capital.
I think they moved away from the Regents name because of the Regents exams. All high school students in NY are required to take Regents exams.

There's a few acronyms I'm not fond of:
UTI: Universal Technical Institute (this is a trade school I hear advertised all the time in my area)
STI: SANS Technical Institute (this is the accredited college branch of the SANS organization)
Those schools always remind me of urinary tract infection and sexually transmitted infection.

Not a college, but a building at a college: the athletics administration office at University of Georgia is housed in the Butts-Mehre Building. Mehre is pronounced “meer”. Say it quickly

My thought as well. Never figured out why they changed the name from Regent College to a word that, in addition to excellence, also means "packing material."
