I'm taking Intermediate Algebra (which should show up on my transcript as MAT-115) (
http://www.tesc.edu/syllabus/current/MAT...-115.html).
#1 - so it doesn't show on my transcript as me doing the bare minimum
#2 - just to be safe in case basic Algebra doesn't cover it (though from the looks of it, it should)
I just researched the full issue myself (and saved the links), so here's the pertinent info that I found on the IC forum. Hope it's helpful to you:
TESC ALEKS evaluation
001 Beginning Algebra- MAT102
002 Intermediate Algebra- MAT115
003 College Algebra- MAT121 *TESC Duplicate College Algebra w/trig
004 College Algebra with Trig- MAT121 *TESC Duplicate College Algebra
005 PreCal- MAT129 *TESC Duplicates Trig
006 Trig- MAT129 *TESC duplicates PreCal

EC and TESC consider ALEKS Beginning Algebra (Aleks0001) as equivalent to MAT 102 (Genl Math) (July 2009)

"I should have probably pointed out that the Beginning Algebra does not meet TESC's minimum math requirement. Thankfully, the Aleks Intermediate Algebra does! The Beginning Algebra can only be used as a General Ed. elective or free elective."(March 2007)

My husband asked about this since he is enrolled and this what he received from the advisor-"The ALEKS Beginning Algebra course is equivalent to TESC course MAT-102 (General Math II)." (June 2009)

My husband spoke to the advisor about Aleks Beginning Algebra. I know the Aleks Intermediate Algebra does meet the requirement. Many people have used it and had it accepted. There is a long Aleks thread that explains everything. All you have to do is complete 70% of the Intermediate Algebra course and then have it transcripted by ACE and sent to TESC.

Jenn,
There is a rough answer below, it's all the detail I got from the TESC advisor (and I'm not even enrolled). I am so desperate for the math requirement I confirmed EC would take Beg. Algebra (ALEKS) but now I am finishing up at TESC and needed to get a definitive answer from them. I told them there are conflicting reports on the forums and even MY advisor (and personal chef), "cookderosa" doesn't have the answer. The advisor said "if Jennifer doesn't have the answer, it probably doesn't exist!" I advised her that "Jenn may be slipping on the free-lance advising ("free" being the operative word) since she started "pahrking her cahr in Hahrvard yahd." Ah, never mind, that's a bad Boston joke!
From TESC:
Mike: The CLEP exam is equivalent to MAT-102 and MAT-103. ALEKS0001 Beginning Algebra is equivalent to MAT-102 and so would duplicate 3 semester hours of the CLEP.
ALEKS0002 Intermediate Algebra is equivalent to MAT-115; ALEKS0003 College Algebra is equivalent to MAT-121.
Any of these as earned credits would satisfy the Liberal Studies Math requirement and/or could be used to fulfill General Education Elective requirements.
...and then later because I'm a worrywart:
Mike: The ALEKS0001 Beginning Algebra course is equivalent to MAT-102 (General Math I) and will fulfill your Math requirement in the BA Liberal Studies degree. I do not know who you are talking with who is giving you conflicting information. Please let me know this individual's name and I will be sure to speak with them so that they are aware of this equivalency.
I have planned the course so that you can see that it has "plotted" into the Math requirement portion of your degree.
I'm calling that the definitive ruling...and buying that TESC advisor lunch!
