Why would anyone go to a non-RA school?

Shoto, I would have preferred "Fool's Gold" but lead works. hilarious

On a side note, the FIRST lesson about college that i gave my daughter was to know and memorize one equation: RA > NA

It's about keeping your options open.

Orlando police stations requirements for entry ( police officer) could be anyone with a degree recognized by the USDoEd and CHEA. So some government jobs in the United States will hire you with a NA degree.

NJ state requires a BA degree from a RA college to get a teachers license. I did not know the difference when I started, but I would have quit if I had started at an NA.

Not to steal the thread but Excelsior954 what do you have against clepping? TESC does not award grades for several of your credits so what is the advantage?

Your right about TESC not issuing a grade. But that isn't an issue. I'm getting a quick BA at TESC, than doing a BA in Business at Excelsior so all of my Penn Foster courses will get a grade. Nothing against cleping! For my Excelsior BA I will most likely do the cleping on the business credits. The thing was, I started at Penn Foster and I didn't know much of the big three last year until now. I gained all of this credit than I found the "Big 3" forum.. so I rather use the credits for good use, knowing TESC will accept it. If I new about cleping and dsst and all of that before I joined Penn Foster, Aleks and Straighterline than I probably would of went that route. Even though Aleks and SL could be combined with clepping as well but you know what I mean! Basically my goal for TESC is I'll have around 30 RA credit and the remaining ACE credit. Which TESC will take up to 99 ACE credit. Everyone has different ways of completing his/her own degree heh.. =]

Oh and one more thing I may add lol..If I didn't find this forum than I'd probably have a NA bachelors degree or transferring to UoP, or AMU to finish up. Thank God I didn't do that. =X

Anyways back to the topic, sorry about the hi jack ! =]

I went to work for OPD in the late 80's (God that makes me sound old). I once overheard the recruiters discuss what to do with a guy that held bth an AA and an AS, really had them confused! Guess what they did......they gave him full points for having a 4 year degree! Applicant probably had about 75 credits total between the two degree's...far from the traditional 120 of a typical batchelors!

You will find many LEO's with NA degrees. Especially among the old timers. Prior to the advent of the internet NA schools aggresively pushed distance education via the mail. I think that had a lot to do with their popularity. They are still great marketers...but I think there are strong argumants to sticking with RA schools in most cases.

I'm always happy to complete the free application waiver for those applying to WGU (I get a free gift from WGU for this).  Just PM me your first/last name and a valid email so I can complete their form.

Haha! 80's phew! But yes one of my friends joined OPD with a NA degree, with a school in the Orlando area where he attended on campus. Orlando has alot of for profit NA on campus schools, it's kind of funny. He said everyone applying went to UCF or local community colleges, and his NA degree got him in without a problem.

As long as the NA programs are working for those that have attended them, what does it matter why someone would choose such a school? You could just as easily throw out such arguments for on-line only schools, or for-profit schools, or any other sub-classification of schools. We all have our own reasons for going the routes we have, and quite frankly, it's nobody else's business.

To each his own but if it is a friend or family member I feel it my duty and obligation to aggressively steer them clear from a NA school.
I am not a school snob by any means, but the RA/NA thing is where I draw the line. I would hate to see someone spend 30K or more and 4 years of their life on a bachelors degree only to find out that they have to do it again at an RA school.

Back to the hijack...my neighbor who is a teacher married to a military husband, saw me studying on my porch yesterday. After asking me a few questions, and me telling her about my own journey, moving twice, losing in-state tuition, and finally finding cleps, she lamented that the same thing happened to her and she ended up finishing with UofP and is still paying off her student loans. She is so mad that she didn't find out about cleps until she was done.
I went back to studying with a renewed motivation. Smile

Excatly. A Bachelors at UoP is around $60,000...it's insane. My Penn Foster A.A was $4700 which comes with books and it's all ACE approved, and SL, ALEKS I spent a total of maybe $250 and I didn't buy books for that. So far my BA is around $5300, take a few more courses and also I haven't added the TESC fee's which may kill me! But hey it'll still be under $10,000 that's what I'm hoping for.
