American Lit OR English Lit???
#1
Hi everyone,
I am debating which CLEP to take between American Literature or English Literature. I have taken the Analyzing and Interpreting literature and got a 63. Has anyone taken these CLEPS? Does anyone know which one is easier? I have literally 1 week to study for it in order to graduate on time. Let me know. Thanks!!!

You might try looking over the guides to those two exams to see if the content of one or the other seems more familiar (or at least more manageable) to you. Having some previous knowledge of the content, however slight, might make one of them easier for you. I don't remember one being noticeably easier than the other.

Seconding KayV's advice.

English Lit is 1/2 analyzing and interpreting lit, so if you have little to no prior knowledge of either, that one would probably be better.

English Lit was easier for me because I already had some knowledge of quite a few British authors. I had much less exposure to American Lit. I'll just echo the above posters and say that if you have no significant background with either, then just pick the one you think you'll enjoy more.

i have not taken either exam but plan to take american lit.

my reasoning was the american canon is much smaller than england's just because we haven't been a nation as long. but i dont know if that makes a difference.

That's a good point. Plus as an American, you'll be more familiar with our history, which will greatly help in study.

On the other hand, English Lit is 1/2 analyzing and interpreting literature. So there's that, if you're really good at that type of thing.
