BYU, TESC enrollment timing and two areas of study q's!
#1
OK, so I enrolled at TESC last August, so my enrollment is up at the end of August. This was going to be plenty of time to finish my degree, but I decided to chill out and slow down, so now I'm cutting it more closely. My last class for my CJ degree will finish the end of June.

Just to throw a wrench in, I'm contemplating including a second area of study: English. I will only have to get an additional 6 credits over my 36 comprehensive tuition. I could easily get those through TECEP News Writing and a BYU or TESC course (I emailed them and you can pay per-credit for classes over the 36 credit hour limit, I've seen some confusion on this issue).

So my questions are:
-If I am still enrolled when I apply for graduation, do I have to pay the enrollment extension until the actual graduation date? Naturally couldn't find this on TESC's site...
-When would I have to finish a BYU course to get the transcript sent over and evaluated for graduation? Is 2 mo. before applying safe?
-Am I missing anything about the two areas of study that will make this more difficult than anticipated (I'm aware of the 9 credit rule, but since my programs are sooo different, the unofficial evaluation really didn't make it look like an issue, and the advisor I emailed said the evaluation should be fairly correct.)

Thanks!

So my questions are:
-If I am still enrolled when I apply for graduation, do I have to pay the enrollment extension until the actual graduation date? Naturally couldn't find this on TESC's site...My understanding is you only need to be enrolled when you apply for graduation.

-When would I have to finish a BYU course to get the transcript sent over and evaluated for graduation? Is 2 mo. before applying safe? Yes 2mos is safe. An example: if you plan to apply for graduation July 1 for September graduation (ideal if your enrollment year is complete in August), the best scenario would be that your final course end on or before June 30. If your final course is a TESC class ending in July would be okay too. You just need to note the final transcript/course in section three of the application for graduation form. If you need to extend through to December graduation (apply October 1) you might need to pay one monthly extension fee; or not, as they might consider September a grace period month. You would need to confirm with the Bursars office.

-Am I missing anything about the two areas of study that will make this more difficult than anticipated (I'm aware of the 9 credit rule, but since my programs are sooo different, the unofficial evaluation really didn't make it look like an issue, and the advisor I emailed said the evaluation should be fairly correct.) My advice here is that you really should work though a plan with a Sr Advisor and have it documented. Set up a 30minute phone advising appointment, have evaluation in hand ready to go over in depth. You can ask the advisor to activate both degree (dual) options and plan in the courses you would need to complete the dual degree. As soon as it is ready to view, print it out (I make PDFs of everything). This way you will have an approved guide. The good news is you can always change your mind once you’ve completed the criminal justice requirements. There is no fee for changing degree majors or plans.

I will send you my graduation timeline via PM. It’s a generic guide I have given to folks who have had the same question.

Good luck on completing your degree!!
