Hello,
I notice that you have taken a few CLEP exams , by any chance do you know how they computed your score? I mean are there a certain amount of questions you have to get right in order to receive a passing score? If so, how many would I have to get correct out of the 100 questions given on the Intro to Sociology exam ?

I still hold out hope that one day I can get a degree in illustration or find a program that I really like and pay for it myself.
Haha… I understand. Art is expensive to learn! If you are interested… maybe check out Foothill College. They have some Graphics/Illustration courses online for a decent price, maybe you could take a few in college as electives

I've taken a few and really enjoy them
… just something to think about

Some people will tell you that you need to get 50% of the questions correct to pass, but that simply isn't true. The last time the data was published (which appears to have been a mistake because it was taken down quickly), a passing score of 50 required getting 49-52 of 90 questions correct. Half correct would be 45 questions. You have to do better than half on some tests, less than half on others.

I just wanted to make a comment on graphic design. My ex owns a printing shop, and she has always had a graphic designer on staff. She could give a flip about where someone went to school or even if they had a degree. She wants to see a person's portfolio. She wants someone who can prove they know the Adobe product line inside and out --- Photoshop, Illustrator, and Indesign. She wants someone who has experience working with her equipment (huge digital printers with prepress computers). She wants someone who is dependable. These are all things she values way more than a degree.
This guy has great advice for aspiring artist --
Don't Go To Art School.
My advice for anyone considering a career in the arts is to get a college degree. The degree will do two things. One is that it will help show you are dependable -- at least dependable enough to get a degree. It might help you get that first job if you also have a great portfolio with lots of projects done in Photoshop and Illustrator. Two, it will serve as a backup plan if the arts career doesn't work out.

That article was awesome. I'd agree that skill is more important than degrees in art fields. But I also totally understand your reasons for a degree. I think this would point that an art degree doenst need to be from a "Art" school, but could be a less impressive (artistically) school as long as you get the degree.
