Anything with university sounds better. Sort of like when Thomas Edison State College changed to Thomas Edison State University. The problem with Lonestar State University is that the largest educational system in Texas by far is Lone Star College. There would be name confusion.

My buddies son (Zavier Warren/Catcher) received a full ride last year to Central Michigan University. Every time he mentions his son's school he just says 'Central' this or 'Central' that and it sounds cool to me.

As soon as I see "State University" or "University of <State>", I assume it's a public university and I assign a certain minimum expectation of competence to it. If I see "University of <City>" likely it's a Catholic School, and I do the same. Beyond that, school names are largely meaningless.

Texas State International University - Sounds similar to Texas A&M International University
That would be a great name to target international students, think of all the extra $ for out of state resident tuition fees.

Fire up, Chips!

Hehe.  I work with many Central grads.  I also have a former student who has started 97 straight games for the basketball team and is academic all-MAC.  Great, great kid.

Well there is a Lone Star College...Texas Military University sounds cool. Is there a university you know in our state wanting to change the name? I know a few years back, two chancellors ago, she ran Houston City College up the flag pole. Did not stick. Still Houston Community College.

I just have a dream of starting an online university one day. I figured using lone Star wouldn't be an issue since there are a lot of colleges that have similar names. It gives me an excuse to throw "state" in there since it wouldn't be a public university.
