44/100 with no studying and rushing thru it is a good score for your first attempt - I have had as low as 36!
I can only say that for the Peterson Practice Tests I have done thus far (see list of CLEPS completed - I did Petersons for all of them except English Comp and French) that with the exception of A&E Lit, the Peterson's tests were slightly harder than the actual CLEP exams - in other words I score somewhat higher on the actual CLEPS.
If you search these forums you will find that just as people are different in life so are they different in when they feel ready to sit a CLEP/DANTES and for different reasons. For some it is a question of needing a certain grade as it impacts their GPA, for others it is overpreparation, for others if they fail a particular CLEP/DANTES they have the option of substituting another exam so they are less concerned about how prepared they are (and may not even have to pay for the CLEP/DANTES tests either-military personnel for example) etc...!
Personally I do not take an actual CLEP until I score at least a 70/100 on the Peterson's as I need the higher score for school. I also have been known to over prepare!
Some individuals will say that getting anything above a 50 on Petersons is good enough to pass a CLEP/DANTES...others say higher and so on.
Only you know your circumstances and how prepared you need to be and therefore what you should be scoring on your Petersons tests. If you read the results of your first test and learn from the answers you got wrong, you are bound to score better on the second test! Sometimes I take all 3 tests if I really need to be well prepared, otherwise I usually only do 2 tests. I know that I always score better on the actual exam!
This is just my opinion, I am sure others in these forums may express a different viewpoint!
Good Luck!
