One significant issue with buying an electric car is charging it while away from home.
Tesla has partnered with Ford and GM to open up their charging network to them.

They call that thermal runaway.
This was a significant problem when lithium batteries were used in planes like the Boeing 787, which led to the grounding of the aircraft for over a year after batteries caught fire in several instances.
This is also the reason why they restrict power banks to a 27,000 mAh limit, and they don't allow them in checked baggage because you never know when one of these might catch fire.
LFP or LiFePO4 batteries do not have this issue of thermal runaway.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, it has to be different technology... that article was a few months old anyways, things would have been at least looked at and improved on (hopefully, at least I would think so, companies want to keep their R&D)

Tesla to build small new LFP battery cell factory with CATL machines
https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-battery-...nt-report/
They are saying these batteries will only be used for megapacks, which looks like a PR attempt to downplay the news to U.S. regulators. I would suspect these batteries will go into cars soon, as Telsa has used LFP cells in cars.
Here's another conspiracy theory for you guys:
Telsa and other car manufacturers are likely keeping quiet about the new 10-15 min fast-charging batteries that will be released in mass production in the next 1-2 years, so you will keep buying cars with slow-charging batteries.

At around $85 a kWh, it becomes the same cost to make an electric car versus a gasoline car.
This is HUGE news!
