What to do about old business/accounting credits?
#1
Hi,

I sent in an application for Thomas Edison (BSBA in Accounting) a few days ago, but this morning I saw that they do not accept business credits that are over 10 years old. I have 123 hours that are all over 10 years old & a few that are over 20. I have 24 hours in Accounting (18 upper level) and another 24 in Economics (15 upper level) and 9 in general business (6 upper level). I liked TESC because they had an actual degree in Accounting & that I could test out of my remaining credits, but I don't want to redo that many credits. I have also applied to Charter Oak for Economics - I don't know if the age of credits matters, but there is more traditional coursework required.

Does anyone know about time limits on old business classes at other schools? And the time limits for classes in your concentrations? Also any other degrees that my courses would fit into & not be excluded because of age.

Thanks alot

I don't know if Excelsior would take them, if they do that is probably going to be your best choice. The other schools I recommend you check out are Peru State College and Southwestern College in Kansas. They are both very friendly to transfer credit. The catch is that you would have to complete 30 hours with them but they have compressed semesters, so you should be able to knock that out in less than a year. I hope that helps!

Here's the page for the accounting degree at Excelsior:
Excelsior College | Bachelor Degrees | Bachelor of Science in Accounting (NYS CPA Track)

and the transfer credit time limit:
Excelsior College | Excelsior College Admissions Time Limit on Transfer Credits

It says not more than 20 years old from date of enrollment. That may knock out a few of your older credits but I think it's about as generous as it's gonna get on old credit. No sure about COSC though they may be better.

I am in a similar position. I have 90 B&M credits over 10 years old with a bunch of programming and CIS classes. I also have a 9 CLEP and DSST credits from last year.

Last week I talked to the admission office at TESC when inquiring about a BSBA. They said that I could transfer 10 credits from classes more than 10 years old for courses that were related to my professional business requirements area of study (i.e. Marketing, CIS, General Management). The alternate way to translate this, was if it was a general education requirement or electives, they didn't care if it was more than 10 years old.

However, I guess I'm hesitant about if the admissions office was correct on this, or if they meant only 10 credits over 10 years old could be applied to any of my professional business requirements (core or area of study). I have just submitted my application as well and I'm waiting to see if the admissions office was right.

Hope this helps.

It think Excelsior is 20 years and older for Business and ten years for computer courses applied to a business degree or a computer degree. There was a link this morning about a free admissions program at excelsior if you scroll down todays activity you'll see it. Its worth paying the $80 to get them evaluated I had only two courses give me trouble because they duplicated each other on my evaluation. So I only got credit for one of them.
Don't forget that gaining college credit by taking exams is one of the reason's we're here. That's mainly possible through the flashcards made available by the owner of this forum : InstantCert Plus of course your hard work in learning and reviewing
