Tesc bsba/cis
#1
First, let me say; Thanks to all the people who give time and effort to these topics. It is appreciated. Second, this forum is a cluster fcuk. I have spent the last few days searching this place for a comprehensive guide to the test out method of college degree's. Most of the info is so old that it cannot be trusted. There is no comprehensive guide. Just bits and pieces. The closest real guide I have seen comes from Sanantone. I will attempt to use his/her guide to accomplish a BSBA in CIS from TESC.

I suggest archiving old post or something. Because the nature of the topic, old info could really mess someone's life up. Also...your stickies..clean them up or something. They are useless. Might as well just stickie google. I would go so far as to delete all post here and just expand the wikia.

Anyway, just some thoughts from a new persons point of view. Really no point in replying. I wont be back to this forum.

For others who come here and might find themselves confused and frustrated, this is the absolute wrong way to handle it.

It is very rare to completely test out of a degree, but there are many alternatives to traditional college courses. The options change on a regular basis so there is no way of creating a one size fits all plan. In addition there are far too many degrees with far too many options for credits to create a comprehensive plan. It is up to a degree seeker to put together a plan based on the college catalogs, an understanding of the various options for credit, and help from those who have gone before.

In the end, you are responsible for your plan. The information gained through discussions on this board should not be taken as gospel. You must take responsibility for your own choices. If you are worried about messing up your life, you should probably pay the enrollment fee at your chosen college and ask their counselors to guide you.

Oh, dear. The forum mostly focuses on helping people's individual situations. The focus is not really to make generic degree plans and leave it at that because many people have transfer credits or want to avoid certain types of tests and courses. However, I will say that I did ask a moderator a couple of times to make a sticky for my test out plans, but I was ignored. So, all I do is post links to my plans over and over and over and over again.

I'm not going to feed the troll. Good riddance.

With that said, for those starting their journey, I do think there is value to the old plans. My BA Psychology via 100% test out from Excelsior was awarded in 2005. Most of my credits were achieved in 2002. It's old and yes, the requirements have changed slightly--sure.

90%+ of my degree credits still work the same way. You still need 120 credits. The distribution of credits may have changed slightly. I may need to take a different or additional gen ed course, or a capstone, or other minor changes. Higher Ed just doesn't move that fast. Someone that takes the same tests I did, or their modern equivalents, is going to be darn close to a degree.

Forums are, in general, not the best way to organize information in that is solely for consumption. Typically wikis and other methods are better for this. The entire point of a forum is to allow multi-way communication. I appreciate the help everyone on the forum has given to me. Each situation is fairly unique (even if starting from scratch) and I think had the creator posted his question, before spending days looking through old information, he may have found this out.

With that being said, sticky'ing the most relevant posts and providing simple links to degree plans (or the wiki with the plans) would probably be helpful for the shy beginners.

If you are lurking and haven't posted yet, I'd encourage you to go ahead and ask for help regarding your specific situation. The folks here have been some of the kindest and most helpful people I've come across and would be happy to help you create a degree plan and achieve it (as volunteers, no less).
