What do you think about ChatGPT?
#31
I was setting my computer back up today (it crashed and had to go back to factory settings). As I was setting it up, I was directed to Bing. I usually change my default browser to Google. I noticed that it now has AI and interacts just like ChatGPT. I typically use ChatGPT to help me find resources when I get stuck. Last night, my school's librarian wasn't much help at all. I told him exactly what I was looking for, and he only told me where to search. When that yielded about 90,000 results that didn't look right, he gave me some anecdote about that's why it's called research. I don't know. How about a friggin link to the dang article? Anyways.... I decided to try Bing with AI. Pretty good stuff. I got decent articles to consider with brief summaries so I can see if it matches my topic. I think one job that might be in jeopardy is online librarian.....

About some topic that I didn´t know almost nothing about, I asked ChatGPT:

"Tell me 5 important issues about X"

Then I looked up "Topic X + Issue 1" at Google Scholar and choose some basic journal, and got my first quote. And made a comment about that quote.
Then I repeated the same for the 5 issues.

Then I wrote an introduction and the conclusion.

I usually wasn´t using Google Scholar, but it makes Bibme unnecesary, since I can get the APA reference directly from Google Scholar.

So far I would say it's definitely a lot better than Google Bard. Based on things I have done in the past I have knowledge of a very certain niche that not a lot is written about online I ran questions through both Bard and ChatGPT to see how they compared. ChatGPT was the definite winner. However I also asked what person doing this could expect to make via their contracts. Bard really could not come up with an answer at all and chat GPT was very vague saying anywhere from a few hundred dollars a day to a few thousand dollars a day. I then asked more specifically what a new person without experience could expect to make each time that they did this, with the expectation that they would do it multiple times a day. ChatGPT said $100 to $300, which is a bit off (typically about $100 to $175), but closer than Bard which insisted on $200 to $500.

I then asked an even more obscure question to both about how people collected the money for this in Canada. ChatGPT got close but Bard had the correct answer. I then ask how the tool was implemented to collect the money. ChatGPT insisted that the correct answer was completely incorrect and impractical. Bard said "I'm a text-based AI, and that is outside of my capabilities." I tried asking again specifically referencing the 90s. Bard then told me that the device is used to collect the money were hidden away in the clothes. Hilarious, and not possible.

So, ChatGPT 2 vs Bard 1. ChatGPT is the obvious winner here but still failing. I think anyone using these technologies needs to really know what answers to be looking for.

Well, as we also can see, ChatGPT can invent biographical details.

I love to test its capability. Last night I said… “I want to write a paper about xyz. Can you help me get started?” It gave me a very lengthy outline of things to research and write about. It did not write a paper for me… which I think is a good example of how to use it. It was more along the lines of, “Compare how X got started…. Look for information about…”. It also advised me to be aware of the sources of my information and make sure it comes from reputable sources.

I asked ChatGPT about me, telling her my name, and she answered that I have been the chess champion from Colombia and that I have participated in the chess olympiads.

Well is it true?   I just asked it about me.  It said that I must not be a public figure or contributed anything significant that has been widely documented.
