Many majors are difficult to study at the Big 3, at least using cost-cutting solutions, as it is difficult to find sources of cheap upper level credit.
I'm aware that these majors are fairly easy to achieve using alternative sources of ACE credit, such as Study.com, Straighterline, etc.:
- Liberal Studies
- Business
- History
- English
Did I overlook any? Are there any other majors where one can easily find upper-level credit to using one of the highly affordable alternative sources of credit?

Business has a ton of alternative sources of ACE credit for all three Big 3.
History at Excelsior College is excellent with DSST UL.
English?

Communications & Psychology can both be fully tested out of.
History will have 1 expensive course to take (Historical Methods/Historiography ~$800 at AMU or FHSU)
English will have 1 expensive course to take (Non-Western Lit - BYU IS $534)
Psych has a UExcel that needs to be taken (only $145, but has to be at a testing center)

Do all three Big 3 require this in history?

It depends too on what you are bringing in. If you already have a non-western Lit course from another college then it's easy to find the other ACE options for English... Same with the other degrees. If it's all new coursework, it's going to be more expensive when you go outside the BALS / Business type degrees.

If you're talking about TESU only (I don't know about the other two schools), then Pscyh still needs one TESU course aside from the capstone, the Ethics in Social Sciences course. Study.com is working on getting their version credit-evaluated though so this might not be true for very long.

Sorry, this is TESU only. No idea on COSC or EC at all. I don't even know what majors they offer.
And as jsd said, I missed a Pscyh course that can't be tested out of.
Also, one or the other of the schools will probably give credit for a myriad of certifications people might have, so that might be a form of "testing out" that you hadn't considered. Someone that was in the military might have enough credits in different areas to have all of their AOS done in a bunch of TESU degrees, like Aviation or Technical Studies. People with a Paramedic license can get 47 credits at EC. All different kinds of things are worth credits, possibly even UL, that can get you very close to a degree.

Study.com plans to make Non-Western Lit available soon, which would make the English degree cheaper by around $580.
Study.com is also going to release an important History course soon which currently can't be tested out of.
