What age did you move out of your parents house? Just curious.

which time?

22 then back home not long after until 26, then out permanently at 27.

Coming from a home schooled household I believe my experience is a little different from the typical person.

Out and then back in at 18, then joined the military. Been out ever since (now in my 40s).

I went away to culinary school at age 17, so even though I lived in a dorm I didn't consider myself "moved out" because I still had stuff at my parent's house. When I graduated, I came home for a few months and then started a new job / got an apartment - so I was 20 when I was finally out officially.

My oldest son moved out the week he turned 22 but had paid rent in exchange for living at home since he was 21. My 20 year old will graduate next year and after a summer internship will probably move out for good.

I moved out right when I turned 18 and payed my own way for 2 years with a minimum wage, part time job. Then I shipped off to the military. I'm now sharing an apartment with one parent(I'm on the lease and pay half of rent and bills) but wouldn't consider that "living with parents" but rather have them as a "roommate." It was the smartest choice during a time when I was very "nomadic" travelling around the country to have a "home base." But I'm close to finishing my degree and moving on to my next career so will be back "on my own" soon.

My parents moved out on me when I was like 22-23. Does that count? Smile

They moved away for a new job and I didn't want to go. I was already paying rent, so I just took over the lease and brought in some roommates.

My parents moved out of my childhood house, and I became the land manager/caretaker at 18. I didn't have to pay rent, but I had to paint the house, Keep the furnace in working order. Timber trees and keep the property in good condition. A fraternity might have started at the house for a year, butWink that was short lived. Honestly looking back on it, it was more people taking advantage of me than anything else but live and learn as they say.

20-22 I lived in what you would call the projects, being broke and attending college full time. I would not recommend. The roof caved in and smashed my only good possessions at the time my bed and computer. I failed out of college again and moved as far away as I could for a year or so.

At 23 I was living in a resort town. It blew my mind seeing people being able to vacation. I grew a lot in that year, and I honestly should have never left.

25-29 I moved back around my hometown, and I started a few businesses. They worked until they didn't.

30 moved in with my father where I originally was when I was 18.

More information than you wanted, but there it is Wink

Went away to college at 17. Hated every minute of it. Quit school by 18 1/2, worked multiple jobs, got my own apartment in a not so great area (I did not care at all), and lived there until 23. Loved everything about living on my own, even working 2 or more jobs. And all of this while having a great relationship with my parents (always have). Nothing to do with them, everything to do with being independent. Would do it all again exactly the same way (actually, I'd probably quit school sooner - I was miserable).

I think my 16-yo will end up being home for longer, because it will take her longer to get through school and it's expensive to live here. She's a delight, so we are fine with it (actually, I'm pretty sure my husband would cry or try to stop her from driving away if she wanted to move out!!). She will work, go to school, and probably not be home much. My 14-yo is looking at ROTC programs, probably will go away to school and then be in the military as soon as he graduates - so he'll effectively "move out" at 18.
