Was she serious??
#1
Sitting in an airport bar in Baltimore. The waitress complained that the soldiers coming back from Afghanistan weren't going to tip enough. Huh?? I picked up their tab and wondered loudly why the waitress didn't appreciate what they're doing for us.... Wow totally blown away by her. Tips? I'm sitting here talking to men and women that haven't been home in a full year. I seriously can't believe it.

Im sure she was quite serious. I overheard a taxi driver once whine, "you Sailors don't tip like you used to."

Reincorporating into society includes acknowledging and following social norms, including tipping. Being at war for a year is no excuse for not practicing what they would normally be expected to do otherwise as functioning members of society. Another example would be service members who are married. If they go to war, come back, and then start cheating on their spouses, they would be lambasted for it. Just as these cheapskates should be. And I'm kidding about all of this.

I don't think that just because someone is a Soldier or whatever it would make them tip less...if a person is a giving person he/she will always be giving.

The real story here is how burbuja picked up their tab. Way to go!
You are my hero!

These kids deserve some credit!

And yeah that was unprofessional of her to say that, but I used to know a lot of waiters and they can tell a bad tipper instantly. There are certain types, ages and other stereotypes that seem to all add up to bad tippers.

It turns out that some of the best tippers are men on a date with a woman. Or men on a date with men from what I have heard.

:iagree:

Coming back from Iraq, I don't think I had that much money in my pocket. I usually just have enough to get some food/snacks for the trip home. Usually because there isn't enough places to get cash before we go home. True we do have debit cards/credit cards, but in my case I open a deployment account for myself and my allowance is maybe $150 a month.(set by my wife)
I can't complain about my travels, On my way to and from Iraq my seats were bumped up to 1st class if the flight wasn't full. I tip my hat off to the airlines for that. They didn't have to do it.

Southwest airlines once bumped me up to first class when I was flying to CA for some training. The flight attendents were so nice also, some women just can't resist a man in dress whites!

I was so mad about the first part I almost didn't see that last sentence. But I'm sure some people do feel that way.... "He was just in Iraq for 15 months I don't know why the cheap $%#^ was so quiet and didn't tip me."

My two cents says that since this waitress clearly has poor social and professional skills, she probably doesn't get a lot of tips anyway. A hundred years ago I used to train professional wait-staff (the people who are servers on purpose, make it their life's work, and have an enormous level of pride), and I assure you no professional server would ever EVER discuss gratuity on the floor. This gal sounds like a default waitress...in other words she's doing it because she can't do anything else. Those folks are bitter workers and loud complainers.

You, on the other hand, get my respect for picking up their tab. Way to go.
