Has anyone taken the Eng course at Penn Foster?
About how long did it take to complete?
How hard was it (rough drafts needed or not)?
Is it a P/F or graded with Excelsior?
Thanks,
Mike

I did get some of the answers (I just started the course).
It is made up of 2 multiple choice (20 question each) exams and four essays (descriptive, narrative, persuasive and one more) and thats it.
It is considered a Pass at Excelsior regardless of your grade (unless you fail it of course).
I was told it should take about 6-8 weeks to complete (depending on how fast you turn in the papers and how long it takes to grade them).
You will have rough drafts that you have to attach to your final draft (so that they know it is your work).
Based on what I have read it doesn't seem very difficult but that depends on the individual writer.
The way Penn Foster grades your papers is completely laid out per assignment, so as long as you do what they expect it should be relatively easy.

Hi
I Am New To Forum So Am Not Sure How To Go About Posting To The Sight--hope This Works.
I Noted That Other Users Of The Site Have Indicated That They Took Wer And Information Literacy At Penn Foster And That They Were Transferable. I THEREFORE CALLED EXCELSIOR To Make Sure That If I Took These Courses At Penn Foster They Would Be Transferable And I Was Told By Two Different Advisors That Penn Foster Was Not A Regionally Accredited Institution And Therefore The Credits Would Not Transfer. Hope Someone Out There Has Some Insight On This--the Price Per Credit Is Affordable--perhaps I Just Talked To The Wrong People?????

As per below since the course is ACE evaluated the credits do count even thought Penn Foster is Nationaly Acreditated. I find doing course approval via email is best as you have a written track record to go by. I have had mixed results on the phone where as no issues via email at all.
Quote:Hi,
I do apologize for the delay in my response. Yes, the Penn Foster course below is approved:
English Composition (ENG 100)
ACE Transcript Data: ICS-0194
Organization: Penn Foster College
That course will satisfy our Written English requirement with 3 credits. Please note that for our writing requirement, a letter grade is of C or better is required.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
Good luck with your studies!
Sincerely,
Mary Insogna, M.A.

The best when emailing or talking to advisor to to quote all the information. In this case not just Penn Fosters, but insead quote that it is a ACE Reviewed course. Then be prepared to quote the ACE Course number.

lorimoyle, I'm most certain they should not have a problem with it. I second zefrench's opinion, get it in writing and always try to give out comprehensive information, that's what I did when I shought approval (included ACE's course number and Excelsior had no problem accepting it). You're also probably not in the Business school, the responses I get from the Business advisors are fairly accurate and shows that they know their stuff.
Please let us know if you still have problems getting approval.

Thanks For The Info--i Have Been Waiting For A Reply From Excelsior And When I Didn't Receive An E-mail Reply After Including All The Info You And Zefrench Provided, I Called, An Spoke To An Advisor (i Am In The Nursing Program). She E-mailed The Following Reply-
"i Was Able To Verify With My Director, That I Cannot Give You Approval To Take The Courses That You Inquired About - Eng*100 And The Information Literacy Course Offered Through Penn Foster Cannot Be Approved.
You Are Correct That Other Students May Have Gotten Credit For These Courses In Other Degree Programs Here At Excelsior College But There Is A Process In Which Courses Need To Be Evaluated When Taken At A School Accredited Through Detc And Ace Approved.
In Other Words, As A Nursing Student, Had You Taken These Courses Previously, We Would Have Reviewed Them From Your Transcript Upon Enrollment For Possible Credit If They Met The Criteria, But We Cannot Approve These Courses After Your Enrollment Since They Are Not From A Regionally Accredited Institution.
The Students In Which You Are Referring To May Have Gotten Approval From Other Departments Here At Excelsior, However, It Is Protocol In The School Of Nursing To Only Approve Courses From Regionally Accredited Institutions."
So--it Appears I Am Toast! I'm Not Sure I Understand Their Reasoning--it Sort Of Appears That There Is Inconcistancy In Their Approvals Even Though I Was Told On The Phone That All Departments At Excelsior Should Only Be Approving Credits From Regionally Accredited Institutions. I Only Pushed For The Approval Because The Tuition Is Very Affordable--any Other Suggestions?
