Can any PMP holder speak to the value of the PMP for a non-IT field? I'm in business/public admin and handle manage projects and contracts, is there value in attempting the PMP for someone like me? Would it help create value for me in the IT space?

In government and the R&D space it is often a stepping stone to lead projects. I know for some people the PMP, or a relevant certificate, certification, or grad program to lead projects and/or step into management.
