University of the People - Fee Price Hike

Current students shouldn't be affected by the increase at all (I don't think), only new student would be subject to the fee increase... U of People is tuition free, they don't really have anything pat down properly even after these many years, RA may be delayed even if they increase the fees, they just haven't fulfilled all or many/most of the requirements for RA. As the person who typed, they may receive RA in 3055... I think it'll take a little shorter than that, maybe in 5 years.

Regarding a previous comment in this thread about how "anyone can get scholarships by writing two sentences" - Only Associate's and Bachelor's can get scholarships at Uopeople. You can still APPLY for one as a Master's student, but they will send you some copy-paste text saying that Master's students are not eligible for any aid, regardless of your financial, housing, or disability etc situation. I tried telling them I was homeless and officially physically and mentally disabled with official paperwork to prove it, but no go.

The Master's used to be $200 per course, as per old articles on Uopeople's website.
It raised to $240 per course.
Then it raised to $300 per course (its price as of 2023).
So I expect prices to raise by around $50 again.

As of right now priced at $300 per course, a Master's at UoPeople is $4,000-$5,000 depending on if you choose 1 or 2 specializations. So if they increase the price again, a Master's in the same subject at WGU will be cheaper if you can do it in one semester, even with no financial aid ($4000). Some people on Reddit confirmed that whatever the price was when you first registered at UoPeople is the same price you'll pay until you graduate, even if you registered years ago, so price hikes only affect new students.

That's what I thought, if you started earlier than when this thread was created, you're grandfathered into that degree fee plan... Hopefully you'll be able to complete that degree without much hassle...

Application Fee:

We ask all applicants for a one-time, non-refundable application fee of $60 for all programs except English as a Second Language. The English as a Second Language program asks for a one-time, non-refundable application fee of $100.

Course Assessment Fees:

Certificates:
For each certificate course, there is an assessment fee of $200 to be paid when registering for each course.

English as a Second Language:
For each level/course, there is an assessment fee of $130, to be paid at the end of each level/course.

Undergraduate:
For each undergraduate course, there is an assessment fee of $140, to be paid by the end of each course.

Graduate:
For each graduate course, there is an assessment fee of $350 for M.Ed., and $400 for MBA/MSIT and to be paid by the end of each course.

Total Costs

The total approximate costs to earn a degree at UoPeople are the following:

Bachelor’s Degree: $5,660
M.Ed.: $4,610

Interesting enough, there are a few DEAC (NA) institutions that are now cheaper than UofPeople and they charge tuition, but the fees are not as expensive. Tuition free may sound great, but they're actually more expensive due to these extra fees for each class, the more courses you take without transferring your credits into their degree is what they're banking on, what you can do to maximize your cost/time balance, is to transfer the max in. You can now get RA Associates and Bachelors for cheaper than that at Excelsior, TESU, UMPI for instance...

Nexford University (NA: DEAC) also ends being cheaper, they mention a costo of USD$ 5,040 for a bachelor degree.

In my case, I have spent USD$ 3,294 already, and I still have 4 courses to complete.

One course is going to be a coursera transfer (USD$ 17 more), plus 3 courses (USD$ 300).

My BSCCS is going to be USD$ 3,611 in total (as I didn´t know about Saylor until 2019, and about Sophia much later, so I transferred much less than could have been possible).

UoPeople, UoP, or whatever they call themselves is getting expensive.

Their MBA program is now almost $5000 ($400 a class x 112 = 4800 approx, plus 60 application fee).

They're getting less and less tempting with no regional accreditation and increasing prices.
