Standardized Exam / Testing FAQs - Charter Oak State College
Q: Will Charter Oak State College provide a grade for passing my exam?
A: Because DSST exams are standardized, normed exams, Charter Oak State College will issue a grade for passing those exams. CLEP exams are not scored in the same manner and therefore no grade other than "P" (pass) can be issued for CLEP exams.
Is this true?
How do you know what your grade will be? I've only taken one DSST and received a 473 and 400 is passing. What grade would that be? Will this affect my GPA? I wish I had been told that instead of stumbling upon the information after the fact. I might have studied harder if I knew it wasn't just going to be a pass/fail situation like CLEP.
Don't miss out on something great just because it might also be difficult.

I know with Excelsior, they give grades for some DSSTs and P/F for others. DSST exams have been getting updated to a new scoring method. The old versions receive grades from Excelsior because there's enough data to know the cutoffs for A, B, and C performance. The new ones are just pass/fail.
Excelsior explicitly lists the score you need to get an A, B, or C on graded DSSTs, so you might be able to get that info from an adviser.

For the Criminal Justice DSST, I only got a "P"

COSC gives grades for the DSSTs on the old grading scale (20-80). COSC does not give grades for the newer grading system (200-500), only pass or fail.
This thread gives a spreadsheet listing the grading scale at COSC for DSST exams.

Edit: Wow. I could have sworn you were talking about ECEs for some reason. I just got off of a ten hour shift, sorry. The information about the older DSSTs previously posted is correct. I was going to take the Soviet Union and Civil War before I realized I did not need them for my degree. COSC would have assigned them a letter grade.
