US History I
#1
Has anyone taken US History I and can you tell me if it's one of the harder CLEPS? I've decided to take this one as my second test but never see it in any of the threads as a test that anyone has taken.

CLEPS taken:
Sociology - 67 (using only InstantCert and Peterson practice tests)

You might want to do some more searching... there are some really good posts on US History. Are you a member of IC? There is a really in depth review with recommended study aids.

I've heard it's a doable exam and I have it on my radar. I plan on using IC, REA & Wiki.

Good Luck!

I was going to ask about this myself. I have copied the suggestions on the exam specific feedback section and made a study guide, and I have also lived with the REA book for over 2 weeks. My problem is the more I study, the more confused I get about who did what or which act did this or that. Anyone have any last minute advice?

Its not too late to write out flash cards or make a timeline. Sometimes the process of writing the things you need to remember can make them stick.

My son takes this one soon.

Passed:

American Gov, US History 1, US History 2, Computing, Info Systems, Humanities, Sociology, Art, Western Civ I, Western Civ II, Social Sciences and History, Civil War, Business, Vietnam, A&I Lit, Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice, American Lit, English Lit, Astronomy, Supervision, 1 FEMA, Total -79

Both the the History CLEP exams cover a huge amount of information but not as much as the Western Civ. exams. Something that was recommended to me, and I think may have helped, was to take US Histoy II first because it is information that you are probably more familiar with as it is more recent. I think for both US history exams I used only study guides with (practice exams) from a local library and some online searches. I found it helpful to printout a generic timeline of important US historical events as well as a list of the presidents and when they served. I think I only crash studied for both exams and although my scores are not sky high - they are passing. In fact the day I took the US I, I also took American Government which I had not studied at all for - but they both cover A LOT of very similar material.

Have a good general idea and what happened when and you'll be fine - good luck!
US History I - 68
US Hitosry II - 63
