Just trying to get done - need to decide
#1
Your Location: Texas, USA
Your Age: 44
What kind of degree do you want?: any, I just wont to get it done
Current Regional Accredited Credits: University of Houston - 12 / WGU - 71 / Sophia - 21
Any certifications or military experience? Lots of IT certs - CCNA/CCNP/MCSE Lost of CompTIA
Budget: I'd like to go the cheapest route possible. This will all be cash out of pocket
Commitments: Spouse / Kids / Pets / Farm work /Full Time work and Personal Company.
Dedicated time to study: I can study early in the mornings(2-4 hours if needed) and I have time at work to get things done (usually a good 2 hours per day can be set aside. Sat days are usually packed with nights free but I can do all day Sunday
Timeline: Fast as possible would be ideal but I am willing to extend the timeframe if needed.  Overall I would like to be done within 12 months.
Tuition assistance/reimbursement: none

So I am just looking to get things done. Yes I have 71 credits at WGU but I don't thing they really translate into anything. Right now I am torn between TAMUC - General Studies or UMPI - BA PM and IS Unless someone knows of anything that fits better. At this point in my career I have a very solid background in IT, and while an IT degree would be nice I no longer see it as a "must have". Life happened, and I was never able to finish the WGU stuff..

I am still waiting on the U of H transcript but it is just college algebra, English, history stuff.. year 1 type classes.

WGU is:

EWOB EWOB Education Without Boundaries 1 Passed
INTE TCH1 IT Fundamentals -Computer Hardware 3 Passed
INTE TOS1 IT Fundamentals -Systems Software 3 Passed
MATH MQTA Quantitative Reasoning and Communication 3 Passed
MATH QLO1 Quantitative Literacy 6 Passed

INTE I27X Client Systems 6 Passed
LCOM LCE1 Rhetorical and Critical Writing 3 Passed
LCOM LCO1 Foundations of Language and Communication 3 Passed

INTE TPV1 Project Management 6 Passed
INTE WJV1 Programming Fundamentals I 3 Passed

INTE TSV1 Security I 6 Passed
SCIE ISC4 Natural Science Part II: Concepts and Theories Life, Earth, Space and Physical Science4 Passed

BUSI LPO1 Leadership and Professionalism 12 Passed

Sophia:
Intro into Ethics
Env Sci
Conflict Resolution
Into into IT
Macroeconomics
Into to Statistics

If any of this needs more explanation or I did not format this correctly please let me know!

and thanks!

TAMUC BAAS in Organizational Leadership was very recently reported as easier to complete by a poster who completed it, his wife completed the general studies (they had assumed the GS would have been 'easier', it turned out to be more work). Being you're in TX - TAMUC is hard to beat, and I believe it has more room for electives (that your current credits could fill) than the UMPI BABA PM/IS.  However, since you mentioned the within 12 months goal, and it appears your degree plan at WGU was in a technical IT field you may be a very good candidate for the Pierpont AAS BOG to UMPI BAS https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/UM...egree_Plan

If any of those certs are worth ACE credit get them set up with Credly ASAP (if you have not already done so).

@CCRB, Welcome to the board, I recommend the exact same thing, TAMUC BAAS with a concentration of your choice or if you wanted to do the Pierpont BOG AAS Info Systems and ladder to the UMPI BAS with a minor or two along with 4 classes that can possibly transfer to the MAOL later. TAMUC might have a slight edge as it's a local institution, especially since they recently added more options as well... None the less, you should review the degree choices and the subject material you have to go through to get to the finish and in order to see which one suits you more.

Thank you both for the feedback, I am still reading up on everything but have not looked into the Pierpoint option much, will do today. 12 months is just a target as well if it can get done quicker, all the better.

Even with the Pierpont AAS to UMPI BAS you could be done with the bachelor as early as Spring 2025 (well within the 12 months). No matter which degree option you go for, you should work on getting any certifications credits registered with Credly.  At the very least they could be worth electives for one of the other plans, at the best they are all the technical credits you'd need for the BAS option. You're in a good position no matter which degree you end up with - thanks to your age and experience (certifications weigh heavily in the tech world, the degree will let you 'check the box'). Just don't take too long flipping the coin before you start, it can mess with your timeline  Smile

The UMPI BAS would take a lot of your WGU tech credit as it has room for 40 credits.  Then all you need to do is finish the general ed and pick a minor.

Thank you to everyone. I did a bit more looking into everything and I think I now have a path forward. Now it is just a waiting game to get accepted and see what actually gets applied from my WGU work..

Be proactive... You may want to elaborate what your path is, or what you have decided on, the reason is we can further help you map that goal. Better yet, create a spreadsheet with degree requirements from their webpage, compare your current credits, and then link us to your one/google drive. We can review the viewable (non-editable) file from your link and comment on any changes if needed...

The BAS doesn't actually have a minor component. One can be added, but it's not a requirement.
