UMPI BABA Management & Leadership Degree Plan, potentially transferring ~50 Credits
#11
Hi Everyone,

Thanks a lot for your advice and information provided so far.

A bit of an update:
  • I am still waiting for my transfer credit report from UMPI, I had signed up for Summer 1 semester in the hopes that I could do as many Sophia courses before I start (but I'm still not sure what other courses I can do, as I'm not sure what my existing credits will transfer to) - UMPI said they wouldn't have this report done until some time next month.
  • I forgot to list a couple courses from Sheridan, updated in red below.
  • I've completed several more Sophia courses, updated in red below.
  • Will continue to provide regular updates to hopefully help others Smile

Continue with the Sophia.org classes that do not duplicate your current credits, you can review the 'course title' and the equivalency links, plus the plans on the WIKI. Get as many as 90+ including the language and science labs if you're missing anything, take them all at Sophia.org and the remaining 30 residency credits at UMPI.

Greetings Colleagues,

I wanted to provide a bit of an update.

I received my transfer credit report, attached are the details of transferred credits from Canadian institutions:

.xlsx   Cdn Credit Xfer UMPI.xlsx (Size: 12.04 KB / Downloads: 2)

I had 22 credits transfer from Sophia, I think they might have used one of my earlier transcript submissions from Credly. Currently, I have obtained 50 Sophia credits, see the list below.
  • PM1001 PROJECT MANAGEMENT 3.0 - Transferred
  • PHIL1002 INTRODUCTION TO ETHICS 3.0 - Transferred
  • VISCOMM1001 VISUAL COMMUNICATIONS 3.0 - Transferred
  • ARTHIST1001 ART HISTORY I 3.0 - Transferred
  • ENVS1001 ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE 3.0 - Transferred
  • HUMBIO1001 HUMAN BIOLOGY 3.0 - Transferred
  • BUS1001 INTRODUCTION TO BUSINESS 3.0 - Transferred
  • BUS1200 DEVELOPING EFFECTIVE TEAMS 1.0 - Transferred
  • SCIE1045 MICROBIOLOGY 3.0
  • SOCI1010 INTRODUCTION TO SOCIOLOGY: EMBRACING DIVERSITY AND COLLABORATION 3.0
  • BUSI1010 FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING 3.0
  • CONRES1001 CONFLICT RESOLUTION 3.0
  • SCIE1021 HUMAN BIOLOGY LAB 1.0
  • BUSI1011 MANAGERIAL ACCOUNTING 3.0
  • HLTH1020 LIFESPAN DEVELOPMENT 3.0
  • BUSI1020 BUSINESS ETHICS 3.0
  • HIST1020 U.S. GOVERNMENT 3.0
  • PHIL1001 ANCIENT GREEK PHILOSOPHERS 3.0
I haven't replied to the email from UMPI yet, but does anyone know of an automated way to get them to assess my most recent transcript? I sent one through Parchment, not sure if this makes any difference, except from having to pay a fee.

Thanks to all of you for your advice and support thus far.

Godspeed Friends!

No other option, they're your best choice for the BLS with a Management minor or MIS, or even the PM minor. I suggest going for that since you're going up to the MAOL, you can take the additional classes (3-4 that will go towards the MAOL). It'll probably take you two sessions to complete the BLS. If you really want to do the BABA, then do that, just make sure to add the AALS as an additional program and "forget it" as all the classes you take towards the BABA or BLS will "complete" the AALS degree. UMPI would be your one-and-done institution, from associates, bachelors, to masters.

Hello @bjcheung77, thanks for the reply and I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to clarify something as I'm a bit confused. Am I understanding correctly that UMPI will not accept any additional credits from Sophia unless I transition to the BLS program?

UMPI will process your transcripts when they get to it. You've already been processed once so they may put additional transcripts on the back burner to work on students who have not had transcripts processed already.

UMPI will continue to accept your credits from Sophia. UMPI is unlimited in how many credits they accept. Only 90 credits can be applied to any degree. You must complete a minimum of 30 credits at UMPI. Many courses are much easier and faster on Sophia especially the gen eds.

I wouldn't worry about an associate degree from UMPI. You'll have your bachelor's at the same time so it would be meaningless. Just focus on the bachelor degree.

Basically... To elaborate what I mean by "No other option", is that you don't have any other option for them to "evaluate" your credits until you enroll. Once you have an academic advisor review your credits, they'll know what you're missing and will then provide you with that evaluation, it'll usually show the remaining classes in yellow highlights.

Furthermore, the associates is exactly what I said, you add it as a second program, you 'forget it' as it's complete when you're done with the Bachelors, you're not 'wasting any time' when you don't do anything for it, it's all done when you complete the Bachelors, there is no worry at all. Lastly, you can max your transfers with Sophia.org exclusively...

Oh, one more thing is, if you go for a BABA with a concentration, you have 20 elective credits that can be anything... If you go for the BLS, you get 60 credits to be anything you want. You can take classes that interest you instead, so you can a double minor in a choice or mix of Management, PM, MIS, Psych, whatever floats your boat. You can also take 3-4 classes that will go towards the MAOL, thus, lessen the load on the MAOL later on.
