We're dominating electric car manufacturing now. Ford, Chevy, Hyundai, Volkswagen, Tesla, Rivian, to name a few. Almost all car companies have set deadlines to go fully electric. More and bigger plants are coming, as well as battery production for EV's. For instance, Panasonic is opening a new EV battery plant in a town close to me soon.

Well, aside from corporate greed.
Of course the US should return to a productive, manufacturing powerhouse. But I think the lure of easily exploitable labor elsewhere, and a tax code that rewards offshoring, will ensure that it won't happen any time soon.

Absolutely agree. If Covid comes back in a big way, we need a lot more Clorox to drink and powerful light bulbs to cook us from the inside out.

Absolutely, I think it is high time we bring back American manufacturing. The benefits would be three-fold. One, it would create jobs. Two, the quality of goods would increase. And three, patriotism would make a comeback. People would be proud to buy goods that were made in America again. Even if they cost a little bit more, people would be willing to pay the premium for the quality and for the satisfaction of knowing they supported their countrymen. I think this is something we should all get behind! Let's start making America great again, one product at a time!

I guess no one else will point out the incorrectness of the thread's title?
Also, the problem is people. There are plenty of openings. But either they're not paying enough or the workers with the correct skills aren't available. Or both. https://www.cnn.com/2022/10/09/economy/m...uring-jobs
Quote:“I think we’re in uncharted territory,” said Jay Timmons, CEO of the National Association of Manufacturers. “For every 100 jobs openings in the sector we only have 60 people who are looking. I think it’ll take quite a while to fill that pipeline.”
