Got this update via email yesterday morning:

"myEdison Student Portal Still Offline

Thomas Edison State College Kelsey Clock Thomas Edison State College's myEdison Student Portal is still offline as work continues on the upgrade.

This weekend, students can still access their courses via the regular myEdison login by not using "students\" in their username. Rather, students should use their "firstname.lastname" as their username. Students' passwords will remain the same and students will be redirected to their course pages in the Moodle learning management system.

Students are still able to access Online Student Services (OSS). Once the upgrade is complete and regular access is restored, students will be notified via email.

If you have any questions about logging into your courses or Online Student Services, please contact the Learner Support Center at lsc@tesc.edu."

I can't test it because I'm not currently enrolled in a course.

I tried to get onto my OSS yesterday but couldn't log-in, I didn't know if it was because of the "outage" or because I graduated....?

I too graduated March 7th. But I can still log into OSS. You might try simply resetting your password.

I'm a little frustrated. When attending a school online I expect the facilities to work all the time. Weekends are my time to work on school projects and I lost Friday night, and all Saturday. This happened over Christmas time too and I am filing a grades appeal. I am less than a point from an A in a class and I could have had this A if I hadn't lost a week to moodle issues.

I appreciate your frustration, rvadog. The best that you can do is watch your email from TESC for planned outages and coordinate your studies around them. In my experience, by and large TESC maintenance windows occur while I'm sleeping. But this one is a definitely a doozy. Have you tried the login site referenced in the email without "students\" in your username? I am able to login that way without issue.

Although this is the best we can do this outage is fail on TESC's part. This outage was only supposed to be Thursday evening for a few hours. Its still down 58+ hours later so it sounds like they've really screwed something up. I work in IT and am certain that for it to still be down after several days something has gone seriously wrong. Typically you would have a rollback plan to undo you "upgrades" if something goes wrong but maybe that wasn't planned or failed as well. Just speculating.

Although there is an alternative way to access your courses I've found no way to get to the TECEP links so I can take one of my TECEP tests I planned for this weekend.

Original email from TESC last week about this outage:

Quote:"Thomas Edison State College is again taking the myEdison Student Portal offline on Thursday, March 6 beginning at 5 p.m. (ET) and should be back online by 12 a.m. on Friday, March 7."

Like you, I too am both a student at TESC and in IT, so I can empathize from both perspectives. Unexpected things arise like programatic defects (which would be a fail on the part of the software vendor) and can take time to suss out and fix. I view it as a fail on TESC's part due to an obvious lack of true redundancy because roll-backs can also eat up a lot of time (assuming they had a plan in place). I did not realize the alternate login did not allow access to TECEPs.

Hi There,

Just FYI, I've been logging in using the alternative method listed since Thursday without issue. In fact, for some reason for a while there anyway, I couldn't log in using students/ in the username, so I've pretty much always logged in using the alternative method mentioned. I can't speak to the TECEP issue because I have none of those in my degree plan, but it would definitely be worth a call to the school tomorrow. Please post whatever you find out. Many thanks.

Yes, pretty annoying that the system isn't up yet. I seem to recall them doing something like this a while ago too—shutting down Moodle to do updates "Thursday night-Friday morning" but then having to keep postponing its re-opening.

Oh, that's too bad. I can log to my courses in at the "https://mycourses.tesc.edu/login/index.php" address but I have no way to get to my TESC student email through that so I can't get into it...
