Ok, I'm having a terrible time with EC. I have a horrible instructor in one of my required core classes and now that I'm 15 credits away from finishing, they are suddenly changing their mind about accepting 9 of my credits they were previously accepting. They refuse to assist me in finding an option for this class with the horrible instructor and they will not allow me to get credit for classes I'm teaching or have taught without going through their extensive and expensive portfolio process. They also keep canceling one of my core classes which has now delayed my graduation...again. I have been a huge fan of EC, but I'm not sure what is up with their health sciences dept, but they have some definite issues. I was thinking about trying to switch to COSC to see if I can finish do their healthcare admin. BS. I know they award areas of concentrations and not majors, but can anyone think of any reasons to not move to COSC? I know it will cost me a lot more money, but I'm wondering how they are at accepting credits compared to EC. I just don't have the patience to put up with this mess right now. If I wasn't so far along I would just walk away since I have finished my BSLS with EC and just focus on grad school, but I hate to walk with just 15 credits left. Help! Any suggestions? I don't know much about COSC, anyone with any thoughts or experience?

Ugh, that's not good... As far as the two classes (the one they keep cancelling, and the class with the crappy instructor,) what classes are they? You may be able to find somewhere to knock them out thats cost-effective to transfer in. Or do any of their Preferred Schools offer them? I'm more than happy to help search around for other schools that offer them.
As far as the teaching credits, unfortunately, that's pretty normal. The PLA is the only way to go, and that's something I'd avoid like the plague after reading about Peace's experiences with it.
As far as COSC, I have no idea. I looked at them briefly, but the idea that I have to write an essay on what I want to do with my life just to get into the school kinda turned me off to it.
Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Wile E. Coyote, genius. I am not selling anything nor am I working my way through college, so let's get down to basics: you are a rabbit and I am going to eat you for supper. Now don't try to get away, I am more muscular, more cunning, faster and larger than you are, and I am a genius, while you could hardly pass the entrance examinations to kindergarten, so I'll give you the customary two minutes to say your prayers.

Taylor - TESC is so expensive, has such a long wait for graduation and I'm a little scared of them after all I have read here. They also don't offer the degree in healthcare management, I believe their's is a public health admin, which isn't the same. Trust me if they were a viable option, even with their issues and cost I would move today!
TMW - I asked my HS advisor what other schools offer the healthcare informatics class that they would accept in exchange and she said doesn't know of any other school that offers anything comparable to their HSC 445. I've tried looking, but most other schools offer this as part of their core classes and you have to be enrolled an accepted into the program of study and then they have school or program specific pre-req's that I don't have. The class they keep canceling is HSC 414 Budget and Finance in Healthcare. They now told me to do it along with my Capstone to finish my program. I didn't want to do anything but my Capstone, since I will be recovering from thyroid surgery and don't want to overload myself. I have some nodules they believe are cancerous and I don't know if I will need anything beyond the surgery, so I had things pretty well planned out until they threw in a monkey wrench into things.

Note - I didn't check out the tuition rates on these as of yet.
Wisconsin has this but its only worth 2 credits.
U of Illinois at Chicago has both Budget and Finance and Intro to Healthcare Informatics.
I keep finding Grad level courses for these two classes, but it looks like the pickings are slim at this point... I'll continue to look... (this is a sloooooow work day.. ROFL)
CTUOnline.edu has HCM477 Finance in Healthcare listed in their catalog (and they are an RA school)

marianne, I see your dilemma, I hope there is a better option for you. But on the bright side like you said at least you got a BS and an AS under your belt from them already. Good luck.

I would recommend a professional and well-constructed letter or email describing your problem. Note that you are an EC graduate and were so happy with your experience that you signed up for more. Avoid using words like "refuse" and "horrible" in your communication. Try to find a supervisor level person to re-evaluate what you're getting from the front line and get this request to them. If there is one thing you learn from this forum it's that there is more than one way to skin a cat and with Excelsior's track record of satisfied students, I'm confident that they can devise a solution for this that should be acceptable.

At one time I was interested in Charter Oak and I was on their discussion board. I just went to check it out again and was very disappointed to see it is now on Facebook and you need to have a facebook account to post. I have no interest in Facebook and would find that a problem.
:iagree: I do think Barcotta has a great idea, sometimes a calmly written letter to the right person cc'd to other right people is just what you need. I don't think it can hurt.
I hope you can get this settled and soon. When are you having the surgery? I had a friend that had this recently, the first couple of days were not fun, but her recovery went well after that.

So sorry to hear of your problems, Marianne. Like others, I feel it is worth the try to see if this can be "appealed."
