Took tesc network technology tecep the other day
#1
This test was a non event for me with my background but it was heavy on osi model basics, arp, rarp, thick net number of nodes supported, typical port for http, I can't remember much else since it was all pretty simple. I assume i passed but you never know since it takes tesc a while to grade tests.

This is supposedly my last test. We shall see.

I appreciate your posting feedback on this exam.

Is the exam multiple choice or short answer?

Just wondering....

thanks for the feedback on that test, i'm likely gonna be writing that one too. Did you use any materials to study for this one, or just went with your experience/background cold?

I read the sample questions and realized I know this stuff so took it cold.
You might want to find a networking book from 1998 or so because that is how old this information is. Its all the typical networking stuff. You need to know the OSI model well. Like at which layer certain things happen. Know some well defined ports like smtp, telnet, ftp. Know the purpose of a bridge, router, switch, hub and some distances for thicknet and thinnet coax. Its been a few months so I don't recall all of it but if you study for network+ you should be fine. Network+ grants 2 cr of business only credit at TESC btw. Not CIS.

Aha, interesting to find out, until I got to your 2nd post I was thinking "Why not just do Network+ instead and you end up with a cert too.", I wonder why they give business instead of computer credit for it there.

I had a very long conversation about network+ being more challenging than the tecep and got nowhere with tesc advisors. One argument was that its a cap course or comp applications not info sys. So then I pointed to my mcsd which shows up as cap and he said that's a special case. Go figure but its not worth arguing about. Study for network plus and the tecep will be easy to pass. It is a bit dated though.

My intention atm is too enroll at EC anyway, where Net+ is worth 2 u/l credits, but I have no idea the exact category placement.
