Please move if this is the wrong forum area. I've spoken to a few of you about fulfilling the TESU Oral Communications requirement. During that conversation I also mentioning recently joining Toastmasters. I made it through the Icebreaker speech and would really like to do another next week. This, degreeforum, "Experience", is the most exciting thing I could think to speak about. Do you have any, "Top Suggestions", you'd recommend I include I know it's a broad topic. My focus is on the forums, big three, cost, speed, self-motivation, testing and less expensive substitutes like Study.com. Thanks

Toastmaster's speech idea - hack your degree
|
You could frame it in a number of interesting ways:
- how adult learners can change lanes without major disruption of their work/family life (alternative credit) - ways for young adults to avoid crippling student loan debt (low cost gen eds) - how parents can keep children's college costs down (student loan debt climbing, tuition climbing, and average time for degree completion climbing) - how online access is changing education (pick a region, pick a career, lots of options for foci here) You definitely don't have to cover all of it in one speech. By focusing on a target area, you can save some for future speeches, while doing a deep dive into, say, credit-by-examination, for this particular speech. It's a huge subject area, alternative/non-traditional education. Unless it's a LONG speech, don't try to cover too much at once.

I wrote a term paper and gave a PPT presentation for a CC class on how Alternative Credit usage can increase adult graduation levels and lower time needed.
I then took it to the President of the CC, whom I've talked to multiple times on the topic, but he still doesn't have a vision for it. banghead
