It's not as full of spyware as all the Mac and Linux fanboys want you to believe. By default it's watching what you type into the start menu and in addition to showing you programs you have installed, it's showing you programs available in the windows live store. You can disable this functionality, along with everything else you find intrusive or privacy threatening.

At the end of the day, none of that stuff actually matters though. Google reads all my emails every day long before I do and the net result is what.. the ads I see on youtube are tailored more towards me? Talk about a first world problem..

I recommend ad blockers not for the sake of privacy, but because they help filter out stuff that's actually malicious, like ads that try to look like part of the UI or browser in order to trick you into clicking.

+1, That's exactly how I feel. I also have MSSecurity Essentials along with Malwarebytes and CCleaner to make sure my system is virus and malware free. I like a clean, defragmenter system and hardly any shortcuts on my desktop.
