Publius breaks down the Accounting degree at TESC here http://www.degreeforum.net/excelsior-tho...-tesc.html
The TESC CIS is listed for you here: BSBA in Computer Information Systems Degree Program
Understand that these will take longer to complete...though it may well be worth it to you...depends on what you want to do with it.
A Liberal Studies or Learner Designed degree would potentially be much quicker as you can test out of so many credits....and the free electives can likely come from your existing military credits and FEMA....so you would likely be looking at less than 40 test out credits to complete this....TESC/COSC/EC all have options like this.
All but 2 courses in the EC BS in Business can be tested out Associate and Bachelor Business Programs FAQ - excelsior.edu
COSC will require 2 courses at COSC...but you can even complete them while deployed if you have an internet connection. COSC will likely be the cheapest route as well....though that may not matter much to you.
take a look at freeclepprep.com the guy that runs that site completed all his CLEP/DSST while in the military, it's a great story and his guides to credit by exam are excellent.
MBA, Western Governors University February 2014
BS Charter Oak State College November 2011
AS in EMS August 2010
I'm always happy to complete the free application waiver for those applying to WGU (I get a free gift from WGU for this). Just PM me your first/last name and a valid email so I can complete their form.

Rebel brings up a great point, Tesc is not the fastest for military. For military, TESC requires 24 credits to be taken through them (although teceps count). If not, you have to pay their ridiculous enrollment fee.
COSC is the cheapest for military as only the application and grad fee are out of pocket.
CLEPS Passed: 10 DSST Passed: 11 TECEPS: 1

Don't waste time by trying to save time. The only sure way to complete your degree is to knock out credits quickly and efficiently.
Don't let easiness bite you in the rear. Know your endgame (where you want to be) and plan backward from there. Your education is a means to an end.
Be honest professionally, socially and academically. There are people (especially little ones) who look up to you and they're going by your example.
Be proud. Whether you're an Engineer or Fast Food worker, there is honor and dignity in hard work.
Picking on people weaker than you only proves that you are a weak person.

Which college is most accepting when it comes to transferring credits? It sounds like COSC or EC may be a better choice for myself. Thank you for pointing this out.
Prloko Wrote:OTS and SOAR is extremely competitive and with the current sequestration talks and drawdown, it will be even harder. We just had an Airman who already had his bachelors coming in get turned down for OTS. If your GPA is low, you will need to take actual classes to bring it up. Also, use a lot of that extra time you have volunteering and doing extra to make those bullets shine. Also, remember you are applying to become a full time leader, so leadership bullets will be paramount. Volunteer bullets that say "cleaned park" or "first four member" are pretty weak when it comes for officer packages. You need to have bullets like "first fours/5-6 president", "led volunteer effort" "organized meal for veterans", etc.
Also, degrees in CIS and accounting at TESC is going to take longer because there aren't many exams available for those courses.
Good luck Airmen (big A), use your deployment to do some great things.
I appreciate your reply, you made some great points. I have been volunteering and also arranging my own volunteer opportunities for myself and others. Like you said, trying to show the role of being a good leader. Thanks again for taking the time to post!

Depends on the credit. Depends on the degree.

I studied for and passed the macro/micro/sociology clep tests over the course of 9 days. I used the instant cert flash cards to study for all of them. Studied for a test for two days and tested on the third day and repeated.
It helps if you are in an area with a lot of military bases because each base will most likely have a testing center and usually they'll operate on different days.
I have no idea about the straighterline macro/micro though...
Cleps Passed:
Information Systems & Computer Applications - 64
Spanish - 58
Analyzing & Interpreting Lit - 71
Principles of Macroeconomics - 53
Principles of Microeconomics - 61
Introductory Sociology - 54
Calculus - 51
Biology - 67

robe4658 Wrote:How many credits did you need when you found this forum and TESC?
I had 36 credits from CC, 22 from the Navy and already had completed 24 credits from CLEP/DSST years before. This left 3 credits from 1 course I took at TESC, 6 credits from ALEKS and roughly 33 credits from more CLEP/DSST exams. For my BA in History I had over 120 credits to complete all the requirements given how all my different sources added up.

Will you be posting your existing credits soon?
If this is for any BA degree, just remember that a capstone is now required as well as at least 18 UL credits in the Area of Study. These requirements weren't in place when I finished my degree in 2010.

robe4658 Wrote:How quickly did it take you to earn your bachelors degree once you found out about CLEPS/DSST/etc? I need roughly 60 credits until I complete my bachelors degree. I'm getting ready to deploy for 6 months. What is my best option to keep earning credits while deployed? Straighterline? Aleks?
Is it realistically possible for me to finish my bachelors, about 60 credits, in 1 - 1.5 years? I want to finish it ASAP so I can apply to become an Officer.
How quickly can you complete a course through Straighterline?
When I found out, I had 4 kids that I homeschooled during the day, a part time job at night and 1/week volunteer job. It took me 18 months from 0-120 and the last 12 months I used for classes at TESC.
