Database Systems from TESC does not have a midterm or final. If you take the online class (I don't think that they offer this as a guided study) there are:
4 Discussion Questions
4 Essays (500-800 words each)
4 Quizzes
2 easy final projects ((1)create a database and (2)query data from the DB)

APS-401 Current Trends & Applications in Applied Science & Technology
Following information taken directly from the Course information within Blackboard:
"There are no textbooks required for this course."
"Web links to recommended readings are included in each Assignment Module."
"Four-credit, online course, consisting of four (4) assignment modules. You are required to participate in eight (8) graded class discussions, and complete four (4) written assignments. The four written assignments, taken together, comprise the final project of this course. Each assignment module includes learning objectives, a study assignment, two discussion activities, and a written assignment."
(It states 4 credit hours...however, on academic evaluation, it has 3 credit hours...not sure which is correct.)
"There are no quizzes or examinations in this course."
"complete an assessment called the ETSÂ Proficiency Profile." (fairly easy, not graded, no studying involved.....deals with what one should know in basic subjects....sorta like old CTBS test from years ago).

As others have stated before I do not know what you are looking for. The following information will be useful for those students in any of the following: Computer Science, Information Technology and other related degrees. I have taken Network Technology, which requires a book, but only has quizzes and a final project. It was an easy class for me. Another class that only requires quizzes and a final project is Foundations of Information Technology, but you need a book. I know that Current Trends and Applications does not require a book, but as I have not taken it yet.

Can I be a dorky girl and say the Jane Austen class sounds interesting? :p I need to avoid looking at the class lists because I keep seeing ones that sound fun and I had only planned on taking three actual classes and those were ones that pertained to my degree. I should shoot TESC and email and see if military spouses qualify for in state residency because that'd definitely make me take more classes.

I took English comp I with them last year. I found it easy and used their book very little.

I'd rather take a proctored exam than write a 7-10 page paper. One course requires a 15-20 page paper. No thank you!

I have been writing a lot of papers lately and I would say that writing a 15-20 page paper with references takes 15 hours minimum of work to complete.
A final exam could take the same amount of time to study for and if you are a little uneasy about being able to produce the answers quickly without a book it can be nerve wracking.
Its nice to have options though.
Penn Foster financial management and others transfer to TESC and have an unproctored final exam and can be completed in a week. Straighterline.com courses also transfer to TESC and have no proctored exams.
