Studied for a solid week using IC flashcards and googling material I didn't feel comfortable with. I felt very confident until I took the practice test and only scored 33/50. Missed several questions I was sure I got right, and a few others I only got right by dumb luck. Scheduled to take this test tomorrow...I will study more, focusing on incorrect answers on the practice test, but now I'm really worried. Any advice? Should I go ahead and test tomorrow or wait and take it in another week? I am under time pressure to get 4 DSST's done this month, which I thought would be do-able (one per week) but now I'm really worried.
Oh, if it's worth anything, I got 100% on the free-clep-prep practice test. It felt easy. It was the actual Prometric practice exam that I bombed.

Which DSST?

Depending on which one it is, the practice exams at times can be tougher than the real thing.

if there's no time to do it twice, then you have to make time to do it right.

I was really surprised that I did so poorly on the practice exam, when this test has the reputation for being one of the easier ones. Plus I usually test very well even with minimal preparations (always scored 5s on AP exams, etc.) plus I actually did spend quite a lot of time studying for this one. If this test is actually as hard or harder than the practice test, I'll just suck it up time-wise and study for another week before taking it. If it's actually slightly easier then I'll go ahead and test today. All I need is a pass, not a high score, and my practice test result would be in the passing range, just pushing the low end, I believe. (Please correct if I'm wrong.)

You need 51-54% to pass depending on the test form they give you (see chart on page two of this: http://getcollegecredit.com/assets/pdf/D...coring.pdf).
I took the exam a few years ago (after the refresh to the 400 passing score) and would say it wasn't as difficult compared to prep materials.
My completed "non-traditional" credits include 27 credits from CLEP, 30 credits from DSST, 6 credits from ALEKS, 19 credits from FEMA courses including PDS, 3 credits from NFA courses, 10 credits from ACE Workplace Training, 3 credits from a TESC TECEP exam, and 3 credits from a TESC PLA course.

Didn't see the post above as it wasn't there when I posted. This clears it up.

What % is generally considered passing for a DSST, as compared to the practice tests?
I haven't taken any yet, and I see the percentages listed for petersons , the required scores, but I'm not sure how the petersons and practice test relate to the actual test.
Currently studying for: Still deciding.

The more prepared you are the less terrified you will be.
I can't comment on your specific exam, but I just took my first DSST yesterday. I studied for two months and utilized every available study aid - DSST practice test, Peterson's, DSST recommended text, IC, IC's Specific Feedback Section, Quizlets...For me, spending more time on the study-end gives me a lot more confidence when it comes time to take the actual test...
Something else I found very helpful - register for your DSST at home before you schedule your test. This not only saves you time, but prevents a lot of extra anxiety on test day.
Good Luck!

I over-prepped for all my exams and could have done my degree in about half the time. The last month I did 5 tests in 4 weeks... including the two ethics DSSTs back-to-back. I didn't think they were as hard as I expected them to be. I passed both with flying colors, although during the tests I was sure I was failing.
