Thinking of getting a second TESC BA degree...
#21
I need to map this out to get a more accurate calculation. By looking at online student services, it looks like your leftover general education electives for the BA in Humanities have to be covered in the BSN. So, there are no additional costs there.

Liberal Arts Capstone (UL): $510
24 credits in area of study (you already have enough humanities credits to cover the rest, Analyzing and Interpreting Literature)
Saylor Corporate Communications (UL): $25
Straighterline Business Communications (UL), Business Ethics (UL), Intro to Communications (100-level), Intro to philosophy (100-level), and Intro to World Religions (UL): $344 if you can complete in 1 month. $443 if you can complete in 2 months.
Uexcels (formerly ECE, choose 2, only need 1 more UL) Interpersonal Communication (UL?), Bioethics (UL?), Ethics: Theory and Practice (UL?), and/or Workplace Communication with Computers (UL?, I don't know if this duplicates anything): $190

If some of the ECEs don't work, you can always replace them with a CLEP or TECEP at the 200-level since you're limited to 6 credits at the 100-level. If you looked at my plan, you will see that there are a few CLEP tests that are worth 6 credits. That means you earn 6 credits for approximately $100. If you can score high enough on the language tests, you can earn up to 12 credits for $100, but 6 of those credits will be at the 100-level.

Your estimated total cost is $1069-1168 not including the additional graduation fee or possible enrollment fee if you run out of time.

Do you know what else you can work on while waiting for your BSN courses? You can complete a certificate or associates without affecting the bachelors. There is no associates for humanities, but there is the Associate of Arts. I don't know if there's anything else to the name, but it's just a liberal studies degree. None of the undergraduate certificates are in anything remotely close to art unless you count computer-aided drafting (CAD).

Thanks Sanantone,

Yeah, I was thinking it might cost less if there were other options. I am not familiar with Saylor...so I had not even considered that as an option. FREE is good.

Well, this degree is not that far out of reach then. You know, I could take the DSST Religions of the World now, and be done with 3 of my credits as well as only have to take a 3 credit math course. That would kill two birds with one stone. Yeah, I think I'll do that.

Okay thanks Sanantone and also Cookderosa. I think I am okay with taking one or 2 DSST's over break and checking out Saylor. I'll finish my BSN in 2014, hopefully get a promotion that will help me pay for school, continue on with my Masters, and take the rest of my needed credits for the BA in Humanities until I hear back from the colleges I've applied to for my Masters in Nursing. Certificates have actually helped me a lot in the past, especially while I was coming up as a new nurse. I will have to check into that as well. Okay, I have a pretty decent plan to keep me busy now, and over the next gap of time between my BSN and enrolling and starting my MSN.

Thanks very much All,
Tara
