Hey everyone,
I'm new to the whole CLEP/DSST deal, and I'm trying to figure one thing out.
Am I able to take my CLEP/DSST tests before I'm enrolled in a school (TESC), and then transfer them all at once, once I'm enrolled? I've got a very large chunk of classes than can be completed primarily from CLEP/DSST, but I am unsure whether or not I already needed to be enrolled prior to taking these exams.
My thoughts were basically this, take as many CLEP/DSST/SL as I can, and once I've completed them, enroll in TESC, take my last couple classes (TECEP) and graduate. My only concern with this (as mentioned above) is whether or not these tests had to be officially sent to the school as soon as they are completed.
I'd love some feedback guys/gals.
Kas
*EDIT*
I'm sorry, I looked online (here) and saw that these can be taken prior to being enrolled, and then transferred in. Terribly sorry, I'll try to be more careful and search next time. Link will be posted below in case someone sees this post and was wondering the same thing. <3

Good catch. I didn't read the link, but remember one thing. Once you enroll, you lock into the policy in effect at the time of enrollment. That's one reason to enroll early. For instance, I thought I'd try for the associates dealing with... I'm blanking here. The health and safety one since it was a "gimmie." Forum talk is that it now requires a captsone. Had I enrolled before that requirement, I'd have had a leg to stand on arguing against requiring me to take it.

Does this mean they may/may not accept certain CLEP/DSST exams at a certain point? I'm terribly sorry, I'm really not quite sure how all of this stuff works. I was hoping to knock out as much of this stuff as possible before enrolling.

With the situation you're in, apply to TESC. You have 6 months from applying to actually enrolling. It will be faster to send CLEPs and DSSTs this way then requesting a transcript when you enroll.
But yes, you CAN take them without being enrolled and have them sent later. However, because of what you're trying to do, finish in a couple months here, I do NOT recommend doing it.
It is $75 to apply. But you'll have to do it sooner or later (and since you know you'll be enrolling within the 6 months anyway, this makes sense). To send your transcripts in later will actually cost more. CLEP and DSST each have a fee. Combined they're like $60 or $70 bucks.
Just apply now and enter the test info when you take the test.

Will do, thanks a lot! cheersmate I'll register tonight and get my transcripts sent over. Maybe then they will be able to evaluate what I have and what I actually need. I'd hate to pay/study for something I'll end up not needing later.

No, I don't think that any of the Big 3 will stop taking CLEPs/DSSTs any time soon. Before enrolling (enrolling, not applying), changes about requirements might be made. For instance, I think that TESC recently started requiring capstones for more majors. Had a student been enrolled before the requirement came into existence, s/he would not have to meet that requirement.

I understand the desire to lock in a degree plan, but you need to weigh this benefit against the risk of having to pay for tuition more than once. The tuition at TESC is around $3,000 a year, and if you can't get all testing done within a year then you'll need to pay for another year of tuition. This may not apply to the O.P., but for others considering enrolling then it is probably better to wait. Use the TESC catalog to figure out what classes/exams you'll need and start taking the tests without enrolling anywhere, and only enroll once you are just about done. You really don't want to have to pay tuition twice if you come up a few credits short to graduate.
