Some do, but not all. New Mexico is really struggling right now & has a shortage of social workers, so many of the jobs I've been seeing aren't requiring a masters. I saw this same sort of thing happen around 2001 in San Francisco in the human services industry, which is how I ended up doing care coordination & case management for people with HIV/AIDS before I even had an associates degree. Sometimes it really depends how many jobs need to be filled, & how many qualified people there are to fill them. At some point when the need becomes too great, as is happening in NM currently, employers start considering a wider variety of prospective employees.
