TESU- transcripts being evaluated for BS business
#11
My other 2 transcripts have just been evaluated, so all evals are done. Pretty much went the way I thought/hoped it would.

Here are the results:
74 credits applied to TESU. 31 credits as "Other", so not applied.

Need:
GENERAL EDUCATION- info literacy (3), ethics (3), math (3)
CORE- FIN301, MAN301, MAR301, MAN372/BUS311, MAN373, BUS421
GENERAL MANAGEMENT- 18 hours

Looks like 15 classes Big Grin. Now, the eval was done for BSBA Accounting, but I am going to switch to BSBA General Management. When I select "What if I change my area of study?" "BSBA General Mgmt" it looks about the same, EXCEPT under the General Management section I have 3 credits given for a Database Design course I completed (TES recognizes it as CIS-209). If that counts, well, saves me from having to take 1 other course.

Something else to consider- when I select "What if I change my area of study?" "BA Liberal Studies" the GEN ED requirements look the same (9 credits lacking), CORE says I lack 12 hrs of upper level liberal studies, I need a Liberal Arts Capstone, but under "ELECTIVES (27 SH)" it shows credit for a slew of courses that don't transfer with BSBA. In fact, it says "Pending completion of unfinished activity", and that unfinished activity is the 3-hr Business TECEP I recently signed up for. SO, I'm only missing 7 courses, plus the Liberal Arts Capstone, and the TECEP I've already paid for? 9 courses needed for BA,LS vs. 15 for BSBA,GM ? I understand the LA capstone is a bigger deal and costs more, but maybe worth it?

That is clearly your call but personally I'd take a degree in Business Admin - Gen Management over a Liberal Studies. I just think there is many more things you can do with the BSBA then the other degree.

I think all of the BA degrees have that 27cr of free electives that help soak up random credits. The liberal arts capstone is certainly doable, many folks here have done it. I think you should weigh what you want the degree to do for you, and decide what degree does that best. Then take money, effort and time into account.

Edit: Took out a don't that I didn't mean. I meant that you should weigh what you want the degree to do.

Haha, decisions, decisions... I would think it's like tossing a coin, it can go either way. Take your time, decide for yourself what degree you're looking for.
That degree should be for your future position or what you want out of learning, ie, a BALS for teaching English overseas, or BSBA for starting a business.

I agree with this point, however; it all depends on the persons needs and future aspirations as well. The BSBA is cheaper probably overall, but to take account
a few more courses with the BSBA the OP has to take over the BALS, it may be closer in price. They need to know "what" they want to do with the degree.

I totally agree with this point here. Decide, take action - awesome advice from Davewill (as always) Smile.

Guess I'll look into what costs are for the LA capstone, but I'm pretty sure I'll stick with the BSBA. The path looks pretty simple, and I've seen the process through in my mind already.

I'll keep moving forward with the Gen Ed + Core BSBA courses, and maybe next weekend I can compare my options with all the areas of study under BSBA.

Okay, General Management it is Smile There are cheaper and better options (for me) going GM vs. Finance, Marketing, or any other areas of study.

SO,
General Education (3 classes): Info Literacy = DSST World Religions. Ethics = Institutes. Statistics = Saylor Intro to Stats.
Core (6 classes): Management, Marketing, and Communications = each through Saylor. Strategic Management = TECEP. Finance, and Business/Society = leaning Study.com but appreciate suggestions.
General Management (5 classes): Money & Banking = DSST. Digital Marketing = Study. HR Management = Study. Project Management = Study, although Sophia sounds like it might be better even though it's pricier. Business Stats = Saylor.

I am also considering Davar Academy, but need to check them out a bit more. I would prefer marketing and finance courses over management and accounting. Davar offers TESU equivalents for FIN301, MAN372, FIN311, FIN334, and MAR310. Some or all could fulfill UL GM requirements, and if the format is okay and price is right, maybe they're an option.

Well, it's been almost 6 weeks since I started on here! I guess progress has been pretty good, and I have learned MUCH from you guys. Crazy to me how much people know and share. I've committed to a BSBA in General Management.

Late April 2017 Applied for Guardian scholarship. Not accepted after 3 weeks : (
4/14 TESU received my transcripts and finished evaluating them all.
4/19 Completed Institutes Ethics (2 credits), and Sophia Team Building (1 credit). Created an ACE account.
4/23 Registered for May 2017 Strategic Management TECEP. (recently signed up for June 2017 as well)
4/25 Had been studying for Saylor Principles of Mgmt, but heard proctored was way different than practice, so gave it a stab before too much time spent. Only got a 65%, but encouraged because it didn't seem so different. Will retake after I study a bit more.
5/1 FINALLY got approved for a Guardian scholarship! ..... after a 2nd try : )
5/3 Completed Study.com Personal Finance (3 credits).
5/6 Completed Study.com World Religions (3 credits). Received my StratMan textbook/BricabracNotes/flashcards.

So that's it so far. Rest of this month I'll:
ask TESU to give me Stats credit for a class they classified as Econ and dumped under "Other Electives";
ask TESU to switch my program from Accounting to General Management, and put me down as a Study.com affiliate;
study for TECEP Strategic Management and take exam by 5/25;
and maybe give Saylor Principles of Marketing AND Saylor Principles of Management a proctored go.

I'm encouraged enough with how things are going that finishing this all up in a couple of more months is a real possibility!
