TESU Quietly Updates CERTIFICATE Residency Fee
#1
Residency fee for degrees and certificates was always posted (updated to $3,192), but certificate residency fee of $1250 (no degree) is now on the fees page:

https://www.tesu.edu/tuition/fees

Interesting because some people already have bachelor's degrees. Also, helps to clarify posts on the previous threads on this. Looks like the certificate residency fee for 2020-2021 did not increase from last year.

Just a thought - what would they need to do to not "quietly update" the fee? It's posted on their webpage. What do you expect of them?

Not being an a@@, just wondering why the need to say "quietly" update.

Yeah, that's a good question. It's actually been hard to find this information in the past. It popped up on the prospectus for 2019-2020 which was the only way that people knew about it. I don't know who initially noticed it. It hasn't ever been on the website and was hard to find online through the pdf. I think most people were not aware it was an option.

I think it's quiet just because there's no way to know about it other than that page. It was not in the 2020-2021 prospectus. Not publicly available at all, even after the fees were updated in June.

It is my impression that the certificate residency fee is not promoted, but it could just be me.

Of course it's not promoted; they aren't in the business of granting certificates.  They are in the business of getting us to take 16 SH at $500 a pop at TESU or paying the residency waiver for a Bachelors degree.

With these additions the policy is actually better. (Like most here I do not generally recommend certificates unless it is in writing that it will result in a job offer or a promotion).

"If a student pays either residency waiver fee or does not graduate within 15 months, they will be required to pay additional credit hour residency waiver fees.

Students who successfully graduate from their first associate degree at TESU and pay the waiver will have been deemed to meet the University’s Credit Hour Residency requirement for both the completed associate degree and their first bachelor’s degree should they pursue one at TESU. The certificate residency fee may be applied toward the first associates/bachelors’ residency fee if the student completes their degree at TESU."

So one could earn a certificate and pay less to graduate with a bachelor's in the future or earn an associates and not need to pay a second residency waiver.

So, if you have 115 transferable credits, how much does it cost to graduate from TESU?

just shy of 7k

Certificate for the Study of Capitalism at University of Arkansas finished July 2022

MBA with Hellenic American University started March 29th, 2021 , finished May 20th 2022, Graduated in June 2022

BSBA at Thomas Edison State University started May 21st 2020 with Sophia and SDC, finished Jan 24th, 2021, Graduated on 12 March of 2021

Total time to complete both degrees 2 years exactly, total cost just a small bit over $10,000

Thanks Degreeforum!

Keep in mind that all of those credits may not work into one of their degrees and additional courses may be needed.

7k is indeed a lot for a TESU degree Confused

Check my Florida International University thread. You can get an online degree from FIU for $10k.
FIU is a more popular institution than TESU.
I'd add $3k and get an FIU degree instead.

If you have 60 RA credits and $4,500, try CUNY online degree. They accept max 105 transfer credits.

COSC is cheaper than either because they accept things like TECEPs as RA credits. You can still transfer in 114 credits to COSC, so long as only 90 of them are from approved ACE sources.
In progress:
TESU - BA Computer Science; BSBA CIS; ASNSM Math & CS; ASBA

Completed:
Pierpont - AAS BOG
Sophia (so many), The Institutes (old), Study.com (5 courses)
ASU: Human Origins, Astronomy, Intro Health & Wellness, Western Civilization, Computer Appls & Info Technology, Intro Programming
Strayer: CIS175, CIS111, WRK100, MAT210
