Order on Applying for Graduation - TESU
#21
rlw74 Wrote:I was told it is good for 1 year from when it is paid - whether you apply for graduation in September or December or March etc - it is still good for 1 year BUT it is not good for multiple degrees. You have to pay the residency waiver for each degree you apply for UNLESS you are getting both degrees at the same time. So if you want an AA and BA that is ok. Even two BAs are ok. But they have to be conferred at the EXACT same time. If you apply for September graduation and then decide to add an extra 24 credits in the AOS for a second degree to be conferred at a later time you are going to have to pay it again. But if you decide you want to pursue that second degree and you've already applied for graduation you can ask them to put your application "on hold" until you finish the rest of the courses. In that scenario it will be good for one year and you can get both degrees at the same time for the same residency waiver. If for some reason you don't finish up in that 1 year you'll be stuck paying it again. I've asked advising, the 1-800 #, the bursar etc and gotten the same explanation each time so I feel that its safer to err on the side of caution and go with the 1 year/1 degree. If for some reason they don't charge for the 2nd degree I think you are just getting lucky. And I would assume that all this will change again. I asked a lot of questions when they changed the tuition and residency waiver fees on April 1st and I've asked again within the last couple weeks. That is not to say that next month or six months from now the explanation will be the same.

Dumb question - why would anyone pay the RW before applying for graduation? What would be the point in paying that months ahead of time? It just doesn't make any sense to me. I wouldn't pay ANY fees ahead of time, let alone a very large fee.

And I don't mean paying a day or two before applying for graduation, but rather WAY ahead of graduation.

I paid the RW back in March because of the $500 increase for out of state students.

But the Study.com affiliate membership kept the price down to $1800. I don't think it was going to go up beyond that price, was it?

Also, what would happen if you didn't finish your courses before the year was up? At that point, you've spent however much to save $500, only to possibly run out of time and lose that fee entirely.

I personally wouldn't do that, unless I was extremely close to graduation, and only had to do a capstone or something like that. That would scare the crap out of me.

You're exactly right, I only did it because I'm graduating September (I didn't do any study.com courses either)! Otherwise, it wouldn't be worth the risk to pay ahead.

I'm guessing it's for people who apply for graduation really close to the deadline and they get bumped to the next graduation date. Or maybe you change your degree after applying. It is kind of like the capstone. You don't need to take it twice if you are getting two degrees at the same time but two separate graduation dates and you'll need two capstones. I thought about adding a second area of study but no way was I going to pay two residency waivers and take two capstones

Got an e-mail today stating that Graduation Evaluations will begin the week of June 19th for the September Graduations. They will go in order that they were received and priority WILL be given to student who are already showing 120/120 on there respective evaluations. So from my understanding they are going in order but are going to do all the 120/120's first then working back in order and do the non 120/120's. That might come out confusing lol. I kind of wish they gave you an estimated place in line or completion date (yes I know that would probably be super hard to do) but I am showing 120/120 completed nothing is pending but just applied for graduation 6/15/17 so I am likely back of the line right now.

Side Note: Good Luck to everyone applying for September Graduation!! I will be at Commencement then leaving Trenton when its over to have some fun in Atlantic City for the night!!!
