BS in Cybersecurity @ TESU
#11
Comparing this to the COSC Cybersecurity and JTP's experience with the program, COSC may be the cheaper option. Tuition is less and it depends what they require for PLA assessment.

For the COSC CyberSecurity, it may look good on paper and cost, but if you're doing a PLA, it maybe more than the TESU.

The pricing of the PLA for COSC is $320-$400/course if I recall correctly; so, if you need a few courses, it's going to be expensive.

Has anyone found all the "cheaper options" for transferring courses into either CyberSecurity degree?

COSC might be cheaper if they allow for more free electives. I haven't looked at the degree in a while. COSC charges $377 per credit hour for non-residents. That's $11,310 for 30 credits not including the semester fees. TESU is $9,352 per year for up to 36 credits.

I was able to use some CC courses for a couple of the lower level reqs, applied and got the PLA scholarship, and utilized the following "non-traditional" options:

TEEX Cybersecurity for IT Professionals -- ITE 145: Fundamentals of Information Systems Security
CLEP Information systems and computer apps -- ITE 102: Introduction to Computer Science
DSST Fundamentals of Cybersecurity -- CSS346: Access Controls, Authentication and PKI
CompTIA Security+ -- CSS 435: Fundamentals of Network Security
ECC Certified Ethical Hacker -- CSS 437: Hacker Techniques, Tools and Incident Handling
ECC Computer Hacking Forensic Investigator -- CSS 436: System Forensics, Investigations and Response

Now I had my company at the time pay for the CEH and CHFI credentials and then I paid the $300 to have them evaluated for credit. Anyone interested in the future will not have to pay that assessment fee again...you're welcome!:nopity:

With the recent update to OSS, the program can now be selected as an evaluation. Some surprises like DSST MIS filled the IT Project Management requirement, difference between Tech Writing and Tech Comm, more detail on the Homeland Security option. It doesn't fit my needs. The only way I would consider it at this point is if I delay grade school for a while. Even then it still looks very expensive.

I'm on an "inactive" status since I recently graduated, so I'm unable to evaluate how my already earned credits would fit into this program. Anyone know if there is still a way to pull up an evaluation without pursuing another degree?

I'm able to do it because I declared for an associate's degree that I didn't finish, so until my enrollment lapses entirely, I can do evals. However, I did that before I graduated. You might be able to call up and simply declare for the degree. Nothing says you have to go ahead with it.

Hey, no advanced maths...cool.
We are all on the same side here, trying to better our lives....so let's get along and help each other out.

Learn a trade. Gain technical skills. Make money, then use this money to get a degree...if you have the desire.

It seems COSC has an "easier" general ed requirement list too. Hopefully some companies will step up to the plate and offer some of these. Adding another "technical" degree without high level math/science (like computer science and engineering tech's from tesu) is great.

Things have changed and this is now a good fit for me. Once I finish two CJ courses at study.com, I will apply. I need to see what the eval looks like before I'm sure. Most likely BS in Cyber and Associates or Cert in CJ. Loosing interest in the Psych cert.
