So I just started the capstone course for my BA in Social Sciences...eeeek! Even reading the syllabus makes me nervous. I am NOT a writer and writing term papers has given me soooo much anxiety in the past. Anyway, I was super excited to read in the syllabus that a creative project is an option. I would love to do a photo essay or choreograph a dance (I am a dancer)!! I think a creative aspect would make the project much more enjoyable/interesting for me and less nerve-racking. Though I am aware a creative project still requires a 15 page essay.
Would anyone who has done a creative project be willing to share their experience with me? Possibly share your project with me so I have an idea of what a final creative project could look like?

I didn't do a creative project, but my understanding is that the 15 pages is not an essay, but the same sort of research paper I did. You just replace part of the paper with your creative project. Don't get too wigged out, though. The course breaks the process down into very doable chunks. Each writing assignment is a chapter of the paper, and when you get to the end, you just have to apply the edits the instructor noted, make sure they all match (if you edited your research questions for instance), merge it into one file and add the citation section (which you will want to have kept up to date as you go). The length kind of takes care of itself, as there's lots of repetition. Just stay on top of it, and you'll be OK.

Think of this class as 5 homework assignments of 7 pages every two weeks and the last homework assignment consisting of putting all of the previous 5 homework (with corrections from the mentor) together. I know some people put their heart and soul into their projects and try to make it fun (like a creative project) and look like a PhD dissertation, but that's not really necessary to get an A. I don't have time for that. I'm doing the bare minimum (no surveys, no creative, no interviews, no nothing other than research). I'm going to get an A in the class.

One of the reasons why I want to avoid a capstone like the plague is for the same reason, fear of writing a research paper. I just took two courses that were writing intensive for abou 30 pages each course. I feel that I now can tackle
a capstone. I'm going to take a few more courses in order to work on my writing and APA format. I've learned a lot the last two months.

Even if the 15 pages is still the same format of the research paper, adding a creative element still makes it seem so much less daunting (and maybe even fun)!
Several of my classes last semester were writing intensive and two of my end of term research papers actually brought me to tears... I'm still scarred from that experience! I ended up with a 3.86 last semester though so I think my problem isn't that I CANT write....I just get so overwhelmed!
One step at a time though and I CAN DO THIS!..........(hopefully)

My degree was in music, and my capstone on contemporary vs. traditional music within a church setting. To show how contemporary music can be presented biblically, I took over that portion of my church's service for one week. I chose the music and musicians, held rehearsals, and the actual project was a video of us leading the congregation in contemporary worship.
