TESU BSBA in Computer Information Systems (CIS) - UL Options?
#11
tsimmns Wrote:Not sure how they would fit into the AOS, but APU/AMUhas UL IT classes lasting 8 weeks however at a cost of 750 they run on the expensive side. They have a System Analysis class and I'm waiting to hear from TESU if it fits the requirement for the CIS degree. While these might not be the best option, they might be an option for UL for those like me who aren't good test takers.

Again, TESU doesn't care if the original school thinks the course is UL just like it doesn't care about the ACE recommendation. You should be fine on the system analysis class though since that maps to a UL class at TESU and APU is a 4-year school. The actual cost of the class will be at $800, but at least most undergrad classes will let you have the e-textbook for free. And for this class, you have no exams. That's unlike my math class at APU was 75% exams and teach yourself from the textbook, so I would have chosen a cheaper exam if that were an option.

The ed4online Managing Information Systems ACPE-0118 is on TESU's Alternative Credit Project (ACP) listing as coming in as UL (CIS-301). I would rather spend the extra $100 in this case if it counts as UL vs LL

Also do you think that passing Microsoft's Programming in HTML5 with JavaScript and CSS3 (70-480) exam would both cover the programing and give me UL credit (it is ACE reviewed as 3 UL) needed for the TESU CIS degree (it is ACE reviewed as UL) and cost wise falls $165 for the exam.

The DSST is definitely UL at TESU, comes in as CIS-301.

You should always get pre-approved for any courses that we don't already know the course equivalency for. But I'm guessing that this course will not come in as a programming course - they want Java or C++ or something of that nature.

The programming course doesn't have to be in a specific language. They accept Penn Foster's course, and it uses pseudocode. HTML and CSS aren't programming languages, so courses for those languages may not talk about the theory behind programming. TESU told me that web development was too applied.

Tagged for a sub. I wondered how those teex courses applied. Any ideas how they apply at COSC?

So the teex UL course comes in as CIS344. Am I understanding correctly that this course can be exchanged for CAP385??
Then I could take the DSST Cyber and get a 3 credit CIS 344 but not waste the teex.

I started this journey in the summer of 2016.  I hoped to be done sooner, but I am still proud of the rate at which I have gotten my schooling done with respect to the many months of military training and deployments I have undergone.

You cannot "exchange" a course. TESU will give you the course equivalency that they determine a course is. Cyber 101 is CAP-295 (Free Elective), Cyber 201 is CAP-385 (Free Elective) and Cyber 301 is CIS-???. Whether the TEEX course comes in as CIS-344 or CIS-244 is up in the air at this point. They have done both, and I'm not sure what they're doing at this particular minute.

BUT, it doesn't matter, because with the 2cr course in your AOS, you would have to do an additional course anyway, and there's none out there that I know of that are 1cr that you could do for less than some of the other 3cr courses. So you wind up with 17cr in your AOS, and have to do a 3cr course, which puts you at 20cr, which then boots out 2cr into another area. SO, it doesn't really matter.

If you haven't gotten your eval yet, then you should probably do so, so you can see what they will give you for the TEEX courses as well as being able to plan your degree. But I would just not count on the TEEX courses going into your AOS at all, and plan for the 6 courses you need without that one.
