TESU BACS Almost Complete: Should I Switch to UoPeople?
#1
I am 12 credits away from finishing the TESU BACS, but UoPeople has just received RA accreditation, and it's cheaper. I know TESU can be done faster, but speed doesn't matter to me. However, the reputation of UoPeople doesn't seem very good, and I also don't like its name, it sounds communist and not a serious university. Any advice?

Welcome along. joined long ago but first post, so welcome
here's one opinion. If I were in that situation, I'd just finish with TESU. You're not unhappy with TESU, right? If Uof People weren't cheaper, do you have the means to finish at TESU? You don't sound like you really care of Uof People. It'll take longer and might mean more courses and more transfer credit fees (if those exist, I don't know). I don't hear a need to switch or regret.
Best wishes in your degree completion.
TESU: BALS June 2021 (comm college, clep, sdc sophia coopersmith, SOS110, and capstone)

Do not switch. TESU will be better quality and better reputation

Thanks. I think I'm just being bitter about having to pay the residency waiver. Sad

WGU BSCS for the win! You'll finish within 6 months, within budget, and within the US. Just in case you mention you're going to answer that you're not in the US, you should fill in the addendum and template to give us a complete picture of your scenario. Otherwise, all the answers and recommendations are going to get you swayed in all directions. The more info with your situation, the better we can assist you. I thought most of the time you recommend TESU over WGU. I originally aimed for WGU (hence the username), but I decided to enroll in TESU because of the fewer Areas of Study (AOS) and I am not confident that I can finish WGU in one semester.

Why not do the 15-credit term with some of the easier classes for the flat-rate tuition?

-Capstone, SOS-1100
-whatever classes you need for CS like CIS-351 Software Engineering (no exam)
-COM-339 The Story of Human Language (no exam), and/or GOG-230 World Geography (no exam)
Completed: HAU MBA | BA Economics (US) | Finland Open Studies @ XAMK/Metropolia/Helsinki/Laurea
Certs Completed: Scrum CSPO/CSM | Google PM/Data Analytics/Marketing

Generally, I recommend TESU over WGU because they're a public/state institution with various online offerings versus an entirely or exclusively online institution (even though they have several states endorsing them). Having said that, it depends on what people have entered into their addendum and template. For example, if you're 20 and just fresh out of high school with not much certs, degree, experience, then TESU is the way to go.

If you're 40, lots of certs, no degree and plenty of experience, then WGU would be my suggestion for a one-and-done option from Bachelors to Masters. What do you bring to the addendum and template? We don't know as you haven't indicated what classes are remaining, what RA credits you have, if you've got the residency credits, your age, budget, commitments, state, etc. What details you provide determines my answer, long or short...

There isn't one right answer. First, consider whether UoPeople’s name might cause bias with employers—although, honestly, there's little evidence to support that concern. Also, think about how you'll feel discussing your college experience with friends and family; this can be important for many people and can influence which college you choose.

Since TESU allows you to finish your degree faster, it might be the better option if the extra cost isn’t a major issue for you. With just 12 credits left, you could complete TESU by taking only the capstone (or both the capstone and cornerstone) and paying the residency waiver, or opt for the flat-rate tuition which allows you to not pay the residency waiver.

TESU is generally seen as a simpler path compared to WGU, though WGU is an excellent choice if you’re up for its academic rigor and are focused on gaining practical skills. Given that you're only 12 credits away, switching schools now might not be the most strategic move.

TESU is an accredited and established State University that has been around for over 50 years. Of all the schools recommended here, it has the best reputation next to UMPI. There is no way in hell I would trade that for UoPeople.
