Just received this email. Anyone know what promoted this, and what the final outcome will be?
Student Advisory on Earning Credit for FEMA Independent Study Courses
Thomas Edison State College Kelsey Clock Effective immediately, the acceptance of FEMA Independent Study courses for credit at Thomas Edison State College is indefinitely suspended pending further review of those courses.
Students with documented approval to use FEMA Independent Study courses as part of their degree program prior to March 5, 2014 will have those approvals honored but must submit their official FEMA transcript with all approved courses listed as complete to Thomas Edison State College by June 30, 2014.
Students with previously evaluated transfer credit from FEMA Independent Study courses accepted and applied to their academic record at Thomas Edison State College are not affected by this change. Those evaluated credits remain part of their permanent record and may, where appropriate, be used in fulfillment of degree requirements.
Students with questions concerning how this policy change may impact their program of study should schedule an appointment with an academic advisor via the myEdison student portal or contact the Office of Advisement at academicadvising@tesc.edu. Please include "ATTN: Dr. Keel-FEMA" in the subject line.
See the email here.

That's gonna hurt. This is one of the big reasons many choose TESC, so they can get up to thirty "free" credits.
I'm glad my degree was certified before they made this decision. I don't have to worry about it now.
A.A. General Studies- TESC, 2013
B.A. History, TESC, 2014 - Arnold Fletcher Award - 4.0 GPA

Hi There,
Just FYI, there seem to be two threads on this. I'm glad I have all my FEMAs done, TESC has received the transcripts, and they are all listed by name in my academic evaluation! I will call them tomorrow (they are closed now) to confirm that this won't effect me. Sheesh!

Where were you when you got the FEMA email... lol As soon as I saw FEMA in the subject line my heart sunk.
I think it's good in the long run. Accepting FEMA credits was one thing I loved and hated about TESC. The part of me that wants a degree cheap and easy, loved it. The part of me that wants a degree I will be proud of, hated it.
So, the better part of me is happy with this, the slacker part of me is kicking my butt for not getting all 30 done before it went kaput.
They might come back (ala ALEKS) but unlike ALEKS which I wanted back very much, I think I am ok with letting go of FEMA.
Total Newb - Enrolled at TESC for AA, eventually going for BA Psych.
Thanks to everyone who provides such awesome information on this site, I'm slowly getting the hang of this crazy process.
CLEP - Intro. Psych. - 63, A&I Literature - 72, Intro. Edu. Psych. - 59
ALEKS - Intermediate Algebra

Oh that sucks. I had actually just mentioned this to dh about him maybe going to get a degree and he sounded like he might be interested. The FEMA courses actually are things that would have applied for him in his line of work so it was just awesome to use those as electives and it be free! I hope they do add them back in later. Without that TESC is much more expensive than the other two and without getting letter grades for anything but TESC courses just sucks. I guess if dh does decide to do a degree I'll be sending him to COSC. Blah.

My thoughts exactly. TESC has always been the more popular choice of the Big3, but getting rid of the FEMA option might push people away.
But who knows what will happen.... all I do know is me and corpsole are graduating in 2 days.cheersmate

Yeah. It's wrong! I have 17 credits from FEMA ready to transfer. I'll try to call in the morning. The thing that really upsets me is that there was no warning!! No time to get FEMA credits approved! Not even a one day notice!!
