TESC's "New" Open Course Option
#1
TESC thinks they are doing something new. Maybe it's new to the students who don't know about CBE and alternative sources of credit. Basically, they've created a plan that tells you how to complete their ASBA using Saylor courses to study for the final exams for the NCCRS-approved courses, TECEP, CLEP, and PLAs. Then, they tell you to pay the $3,000 enrollment fee under their Enrolled Options Plan. What they don't tell you is that 12 credits in TECEPs will meet the residency requirements under the Per Credit Tuition Plan and save the student from having to pay that astronomical enrollment fee. And because they're limiting the types of CBEs you can take based on what Saylor offers as study materials, they've excluded options that are cheaper than the PLAs they suggest for subjects that don't have a CLEP, NCCRS course, or TECEP. These excluded options include Uexcel and DSST. For example, they tell you that you have to complete a PLA for a couple of the Personal and Social Responsibility requirements when you can just test out of them even if Saylor doesn't offer an aligned course. They also fail to tell you that you can take a CLEP (or DSST) instead of completing an expensive, arduous PLA for the Intro to Computers/CIS requirement.

Hmmm....sounds kind of shady. Time to update their wiki profile with a "criticism" section.
Don't miss out on something great just because it might also be difficult.

I really don't know why the plan tells you to complete a PLA for Intro to Computer Science when Saylor's course is NCCRS-approved. It must be a mistake.

Does one make them more money than the other?

They don't make money off of CLEP or Saylor; and, they don't make much money off of TECEPs. But, I don't think they left off the NCCRS-approved computer science course for shady reasons because they mentioned the other ones that could be used.

Why don't you just contact them and let them know then. Perhaps contact them on their Facebook page via social media and ask them to verify and update the information you provided.

You are uncompromisingly forthright. That doesn't bother me because I'm also blunt. Sometimes I make an effort to be more tactful than other times.

Maybe I'll send an email to the school of business. They're usually good at responding to things.

Good idea. You could definitely be helping someone that doesn't know any better.
