TESC - photography classes?
#1
Hi all,

I'm currently working toward my BA/Liberal Arts at TESC, but seriously considering changing my degree to Photography. Looking at the credit distribution for BA.PHOTO (http://www.tesc.edu/3675.php), they mention the following courses as requirements:

- Principles of Photography (3 credits) OR Black and White Photography (3 credits)
- History of Photography
- Color Photography

Problem is, none of these are in the 2011-2012 Course Catalog; they only seem to offer two classes, which are Intro to Photography (PHO-101) and Digital Camera I (PHO-363). Furthermore, there's a 24-credit elective requirement that also does not seem to have any of its corresponding courses offered directly by TESC.

Is anyone out there pursuing this degree at TESC? Have you had to take courses elsewhere and transfer them in?

Thanks in advance!

Yes you do have to take classes else where. They do only have Dig Photo and Intro to Photography. Do you have a local CC in your area that might have an art dept that has photography classes? I am in the process of helping someone near where I live make a plan for these courses and its not that easy. She wants her degree from TESC because of the transfer and testing but she also wants in photography not just art. She does not want to pay for a degree from a art school.

Here is one class she is thinking about taking

ART 206 History of Photography - A BC Online Credit Course

We have also found locally Photography I and II, Digital Photography, Blk and White Photography, Photoshop, and one another course she can do and I can not think of it off the top of my head.

Then again you can always look into taking classes at AI in Pittsburgh

Photography Courses | The Art Institute of Pittsburgh Online Division

I know you use to be able to take single classes with them. But they are expensive.

As I said you will have to hunt to find all of the course but you probably could probably get it done. Let me know what you find for classes.

My daughter is also very interested in this degree! I have been searching online for hours and hours the past few days and have had very little success. Clovis Community College has Digital Photography(ART217) and Photoshop/Digital Photo Imaging(ART258) for $267 for all 6 credits. They also have Art History I. Adams State has Art History I and II for $495. The only other courses I have been able to find are the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and I can't afford to spend over $15,000 for 10 courses for her major. :ack:

If anyone knows of any cheaper courses, I would be very grateful if you posted them! We live in the Baltimore/Washington DC area.

Thanks!

Thanks for this post!
I have always wanted to learn photography, since I was 10 years old.
I am a computer programmer but have always had a knack for art and photography. I had no idea TESC had a class on digital photography. This might be a great course to take for fun and enrichment.

I might also consider a 3rd degree in humanities (I know its crazy) because I have had 2 upper level humanities classes and some literature classes already.

Well I'll just focus on the nat sci/math degree for now. Once I have completed all of the TESC degrees that I can, I'll probably do the WNMU MALS courses in whatever seems interesting. MBA courses are great but not as enlightening as they could be...

Thanks, Alleycat! I thought it was too good to be true Smile

I'll do some searching as well - if I find anything else I will post it here.

You're Welcome Chad. As I said if you have a CC near you that has an art dept that has photography classes then you are all set with this degree. Even a reasonably price art school (which is almost impossible to find) where you can take a few classes would be great. Also you could test out on Art History I which is equal to DSST Art of the Western World. Keep me posted. Smile
