My first midterm exam at TESC is tomorrow and I'm nervous 'cause I don't know what to expect. I don't exactly know how to prepare for it because I don't have any idea if it's all going to be "know your facts" questions or subjective philosophical essay stuff. I think it's some of both but, as I said, I have no idea what to do last minute brush-up stuff on.
The class is "War and American Society" and so far has been much more about the philosophical side.
Anyway, can anybody give me any feedback in general about TESC midterms? How many essay questions do they ask you anyway? Anything I should know?

To be honest, I have hated pretty much all of my midterms. (I won't go on and on about why)
I assume you are using a proctor? I guess I am just spoiled, because I can't stand hand writing essays anymore. I have not taken your class, but in all of my classes (except Math) I have had to write essays and do some multiple choice questions. In my math, what they did instead of an essay, was a handful of problems that required me to show my work. So, I would estimate that they want to "see" something from you beyond the M/C answers.
My worst midterm was The Sociology Of Work. It consisted of 5 essay questions asking for a 2-3 page reply each. I ended up with 14 pages in 2 hours. I had pain in my hand for days. My mentor docked me 5 points for spelling the word rapport wrong and gave me 95  He wrote "watch the spelling as in rapport." I was shocked that THAT SENTENCE was his brilliant contribution to my efforts- but anyway....
It's my opinion that TESC, as an institution, wants you to pass. I think they must come down hard on mentors who have high fail rates. Essay allows them a little room for bias (good or bad) which I think they use to help your grade along. I can't prove it, but that's just my observation based on the quality of work I submit and the feedback (ha!) from most of my mentors. So, I wouldn't sweat it too bad- but I'm sure you'll have essays. It will be your mentor who grades your work, so be sure to look back through the discussion questions and written assignments you have already done- you will probably see common themes.

Well, I got through the midterm okay.....it wasn't as bad as I expected.
But now I'm wondering how long it takes for the grade to show up? It's been almost two weeks since I took it.

How did your test go? I am going to be taking that class this fall. How do you feel about the class? Any feedback positive or negative would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If there were essay questions it could be 3 - 4 weeks. If it was all MC, then you should see a grade any day now.

I'm going to be taking my midterm for "War and American Society" on Thursday and I'm confused about how to spend my time studying. Should I mainly focus on the text book? Or, should I spend a lot of time going over the extra reading assignments? Also, does anyone have any idea about how many essay questions there are and about how many paragraphs I should write on each one?
I would appreciate your advice. Thanks!

You don't say what school. If it is TESC have you tried the unofficial forum
UNOFFICIAL THOMAS A. EDISON STATE COLLEGE - Login It is free and may have more info on your class. Do you have the study guide for the class it should tell you more about what to study or expect.
Good Luck
