Hello all,
I have just been accepted to medical school for the fall of 2014. I graduated from TESC in 2011, with a BS in organizational leadership. I had 36 credits from TESC, and the rest from the CC and about 60 CLEP/DSST credits.
Volunteered all over the place, was a firefighter, EMT, shadowed and committed to a 2-year post bac for the pre reqs to med school.
MCAT 25, overall 3.4 GPA
I'm so excited to start this process as a Med student in a very nice program at the Alabama college of osteopathic medicine. My education never was an issue for my interview or acceptance.
I would be glad to answer questions if I can if anyone wants to PM me.
It can be done folks. Education can be done many ways.

Hot damn! Whoo hooo. The biggest congratulations to you friend!!! *Those links/threads have great information in them by the way, I hope people take the time to go back and read them, especially if they'd like to follow in your footsteps.
What's the best med school in the USA? The one you get accepted to! ha ha Alabama flew under my radar when I was looking into DO schools. Care to share how the interview went or any questions they asked? I'm super curious of course!

Thank you Jennifer! I'm ridiculously excited. As someone mentioned, ACOM started last year. It's 3&4 year programs and residencies have been running for seven years already though, through a system they started through a very nice, large medical hospital close by.
The school is brand new, staff and fac are warm and engaging. Current students love it, curriculum is great, (also included in tuition!) and cost of living is low. Will have to adjust to the south, being a Yankee
My education never came up in the interview. I had good, but not great numbers, but they asked about my experiences. Experiences as a firefighter, as someone who worked overseas, about my desire to be a doctor, which was already bleeding through my personal statement. An ethical question, questions for them, which I found out about the rotations for residency, (which sound very flexible) and the learning curve for their 2nd class for this new yet prominent school. Two weeks later I got the call and could not love the place more.
Good to know you on this journey, Jennifer! Although it was hardly the most streamlined path, I don't regret a minute of my non trad education and meeting others who have skinned the cat in another way
best to you at Canisius!

Congratulations and Thank You for sharing your path and your great news. Your story can help motivate others to finish and might even get some to start this unusual but wonderful process.
For those that don't know an Osteopathic medical school gives an OD not an MD, but I have found that OD's are less rushed and more open to listening to the patients whole problem. I love my OD and he is very knowledgeable. Some MD's look down on OD's but most have come to accept them as equals.

Sorry, I earned my BA "back in the day" two policy changes ago (2008!!). In 2008 the capstone was not required, and 200 level courses were upper level. I've never read the syllabus for the course, however, I think there are a handful here who are taking it or have just finished. I'm sure if you start a new thread just on the capstone you'll get better answers. Good luck!
